User Bio
I became interested in this website after hearing about the growing use of civil commitment, sex offender therapy, and the different status S.O.'s have in comparison to other criminals. Though I'm not a SO or even a felon, I'm a permanent guest within any community I'm a part of. After reading the archives and some of the downloaded material, I know why sex offenses are seen as such a big deal by society at large. I have never victimized anyone, but many of the women who have shown an interest in me have been abused as children. As for sex offender treatment, it seems like the basic premises and goals are 1) accountability, 2) confrontation, 3) change, 4) clarification, and 5) wholeness. This seems to me a bit like 12-step programs and even religion, only with a specific goal in mind. If generalized from sex offenses to other harmful behaviors, I think that the S.O. treatment model would make a great model for others, especially those with religious beliefs. Most of the same thinking errors that S.O's have, everyone has, but they usually lead to self-destructive behaviors. The concepts of cycles, thinking errors, can and should be generalized outside of S.O. treatment into most other forms of treatment.
