oioi, I already responded to your private message about this yesterday, but for the benefit of others I'm going to reply to your post here as well (in more detail).

First, SexCriminals.com is a privately owned and managed web site (the collection of pages and documents accessible via SexCriminals.com), which operates a number of publicly viewable discussion forums (the site and forums aren't equivalent - the forums are a subset of the site), all of which currently require individuals to register for a user account and login in order to post messages that are either reviewed before being posted, reviewed after being posted or reviewed after administrators are alerted about a potential problem.

Almost all pages on this site have the potential to be accessible via search engines. In a nutshell, search engines use programs called bots, which regularly visit pages on this and other sites and index and analyze the text on those pages. When a search engine user searches for a phrase, the search engine returns a list of pages that contain that phrase, ranking them based on very complex and secretive algorithms that are intended to rank the best matches highest.

SexCriminals.com does not pay any search engines to appear closer to the top of search engine result pages or for any other purpose, but pages from this site rank highly for many frequently searched terms (such as nevada sex offenders) and also many rarely searched terms (such as my partner pedophile). As a result, a large percentage of the visitors to this site each day arrive here because they clicked a link to a page on SexCriminals.com that appeared as the result of conducting a search on a search engine.

Earlier, I said almost all pages on this site have the potential to be accessible via search engines. The big exception is private messages. Only the sender and recipient of a private message can access it. Search engines can't access them and neither can other users or visitors to the site.

I welcome and encourage users and other visitors to provide feedback and suggestions about the site. If there's something that's misleading, confusing, incorrect, missing, etc. I appreciate the feedback, especially if it comes with suggestions on how to address the particular problem or shortcoming. If and when there's good reason to add one or more private forums that are not accessible by search engine bots and/or visitors who aren't logged in as users, I'll be glad to discuss and consider that. And if there's something you've posted that you're not comfortable with those who aren't registered users seeing, please contact me via Private Message to discuss.

I hope that my reply was useful. If anyone, especially oioi, wants to discuss further, feel free to. If there's further discussion, I'll probably move this thread to the "Site Goals and Ideas" forum.

See an abbreviation or acronym, but don't know what it stands for? Consult the Glossary.
