I noticed Navigator takes up alot of space posting his cop watch articles...is there anyway to confine those to just In the News forum?

Ive noticed that you have taken alot of space too in just a few short days of being back. Besides, I like his postings. they are already limited to just one thread. Gimmie a break! Does it bother you so much that there are just as many cops and judges committing sex crimes as anyone else.

I have mixed emotions about the cop stories. On one hand, the articles Nav posts are related to sex crimes and are an important issue as it relates to some of the discussions. However, the extreme volume of posts detracts from the sexual abuse issues and gives the impression that this site is anti-law enforcement. Although I take a lot of personal digs because of my profession, it's understandable that criminals don't approve of anyone enforcing the law. But then again, maybe Steve doesn't want to attract more LE on the forums. I can see both sides of the issue. I haven't seen or heard of any illegal activity on the forums so either way I suppose it's a personal preference.

I'd be more interested in knowing why Nav posts so many articles on this site just from a personal standpoint. Isn't one website enough?

Are you afraid of the truth Valerie? I post these articles because people need to know that cops and those related to law enforcement commit sex crimes too. I considered these people to be the most atrocious of offenders because they are in a position of authority, and know how to hide their tracks. Plus they have the blue wall of silence to help them. Have you noticed that most of them get a slap on the wrist? I suppose you would feel safe with one of them living near you.

There are people on this website who do read those article even if they don't comment on them. I would like to post them to the news section of this forum, but as yet steve doesn't allow it. So I have confined them to one thread so that they don't over run the general forum.

Now if you are concerned about articles over running the general forum, why aren't you complaining about the articles posted by dp1? She posts a lot of articles, and doesn't even confine them to one thread. I have noticed that you started posting articles too, but haven't been posting the links. Are attempting a posting war against me?

So don't other people have that same ability? What can possibly be worse than a child's parent molesting them? I don't disagree with you that cops who sexually abuse people are atrocious, but my list of atrocious criminals isn't limited to one profession or type of person. I'm not trying to pick on you Nav, just trying to verbalize the anti-law enforcement impression the shear volume of like-stories might leave on someone viewing this site might have.

Exposing bad cops is a good thing. Please don't take my comments out of context. I've always respected your postings although we are pretty much diametrically opposed to one another. Can you at least understand that some people might not respect others that seem to hate cops? That's what I'm getting at Nav.

I've had plans for a long time to allow users to submit articles directly to the News Archive, which would make the threads available in the In the News Forum, but due to a combination of technical, legal and time constraint reasons, that's not currently feasible. When there was some concern expressed a month or two or three ago that Navigatr1's posts were pushing other threads off the main page of the General forum he agreed to post them in batches to a single thread (it may have even been his idea). I'm comfortable with that for now.

I agree that sex crimes committed by law enforcement (and others in a position of trust) are a terrible thing and there should be awareness of such crimes. I never really thought about perception in LE that SexCriminals.com is some sort of anti-LE site simply b/c one of its users posts a lot of legitimate articles on the subject, but that's something I'll chew on...maybe.

I don't want to debate this matter here so if anyone has anything more they want to share with me on it, contact me privately and I'll keep an open mind to your views. Let's not see any kind of article posting war. And let me remind everyone, including Valerie since you may not be aware of it given your absence and you recently posted what appeared to be a full article with no URL included, but when I'm closely monitoring posts I will block posts that 1. either quote entire copyrighted articles, large chunks of them or appear to do so and/or 2. do not post the URL (web address) of said quoted article. This is due to legal reasons which are very real since I've gotten cease and desist letters, legal threats, phone calls, etc. and paying an attorney $200+ an hour to advise and help with such situations on a site that already is paid for out of my pocket is not something that makes me happy. It's been since the spring if memory serves me since that's happened, but that's because of major changes to the News Archive and stricter posting requirements.

From the forum guidelines:

Guideline 9

Do not post articles and other copyrighted material. You may cite a source and post its URL or instructions on how to find it, but limit any quoting of article text.

I doubt this topic warrants a posting war. But, you brought up an excellent point for not only Valerie's benefit but for all new users. We all need to remember to post the link. I believe Steve doesn't want us posting the entire article, maybe just a few quotes from the article. Isn't that because of some copyright law or whatever?

Val, when you highlight quotes from an article after posting the link follow the example above the message box with the brackets. It's a little awkward in the beginning but you get used to it. I can't understand why Steve won't let us use different colors. lol

This thread must of gone right by me...I have no problem with your reasoning behind the articles and even agree to a large extent that people in the position of power should have higher standards....I only mentioned it because they seemed to be articles from the news and In the News forum seemed a likely place...I too run across alot of articles that would be helpful and informative to everyone...but I was leary posting them in the general forum...more from formatt and space than anything......couple of you get your feathers ruffled easily, very defensive.....calm down boys...you drink too much coffee.......................laughing............
