I was convicted of a sex offence 7 years ago. The "victim" was 17 at the time with 2 months to go before 18. As it turned out, when I was involved with her she was in court with another case involving another adult. Her mother's boyfriend, who had been sleeping with her since she was 15. I make no excuses here; just want to share the facts.
I'm sure I am not going to say much new here. I have lost a few apartments and will lose this one when they pass the 2000ft. law, probation says I can't stay in a hotel room so I will lose my job because it involves travel (this is new and I have traveled for 7 years now with no incidents). As we know, you must retain a job and a residence to be in compliance, so I will probably lose what little freedom I have.
I had an incident with a new polygrapher who demanded that I respond that I have seen pornography or he would fail me before I took the test. He stated “I’ve been working with guys like you for twenty years and I KNOW you’re doing it.” I asked for the video as proof but he "lost" it. (Others have the same issues with this man).
I have had my apartment searched from top to bottom by probation (another new policy) and they are now putting ankle bracelets on all SO's regardless of your original orders.
As I am sure a lot of you have, I have endured death threats, vandalism, public humiliation, misinformation on the registry site, restrictions on how I make my income (and I'm not talking about working with children), and an overall brutal attitude from one of my PO's that is hellbent on violating his people... He drove one 21 year old to suicide with his fear tactics.
All I can say is this. When you take everything from someone that leaves them with nothing to lose and that is a dangerous thing.
I am a well educated professional who has kept an honest life. Seven years ago I knew I could get through probation with no problems. I don't do drugs and drink about four beers a month, so nothing on my part would get me violated or committing another crime.
These days I have lost that naive perspective. But I am NOT amazed at what is going on and how the public is being whipped up into frenzy against us with a misrepresentation of facts (if given any at all). Facts do not matter here, politics do! We have seen this happen before, in Germany circa 1933-1945, Russia circa 1917 and so on. It's only a matter of time before they start "relocating" us to "camps". If that seems far fetched, look back a few years ago and think what laws are in place now that seemed far fetched then.
The truth is, we are subject to any abuses that can be imagined and no one bats an eyelash. I for one am sick of it. I am at my point of "enough".
As a combat veteran I have no compunctions against defending myself. I see this as an attack on my very life and I am at the point of making a statement about it. It will be the kind of statement that will make National news. I am one who is no longer afraid. When I have been stripped of everything, I will have nothing left to lose!
I feel it is my patriotic duty to defend the constitution against all those who oppose it, foreign… or domestic!
"Experience should teach us to be on our guard to protect liberty when government's purpose are beneficent. Men born to freedom are naturally alert to repel invasion of their liberty by evil-minded rulers. The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment of men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding." - Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis from Olmstead v. United States

You've been on probation these past seven years, traveled in your job, and now suddenly are told you can't? Sounds like you need to take that one to the judge.
I had an incident with a new polygrapher who demanded that I respond that I have seen pornography or he would fail me before I took the test.
Polygraphs are voodoo and the polygraphers are quacks. But a question for you. Are you STILL in sex offender treatment after 7 years? You should have long since completed treatment. Perhaps it's time you found a different provider?
I have had my apartment searched from top to bottom by probation (another new policy)
Warrantless searches have been a part of sex offender probation in your state for quite some time. It isn't a "new" policy.
and they are now putting ankle bracelets on all SO's regardless of your original orders
They can't GPS you if your conviction and sentence predates the law. Which yours does by a good 6 1/2 years. If they put one on you, you need to get a lawyer and sue the crap out of them.

I understand your anger fully. But you have 2 choices in life either deal with your anger and frustration or join the Timothy McVie Fan club. There are many that are just as angry on both sides of the issue.

have faith and strength, dark one. This maddness will soon end as more and more people with power AND common sense are starting to realise that the actions of legislatures across the country have done nothing but violate the rights of its citizens. In my state of Indiana, myself and my little army have kept those draconian laws from being passed here for 2 years now. We won a very major victory in the 2006 legislative session in keeping 3 VERY draconian bills from becoming law which proves that just a few dedicated people can do alot to protect the rights of its citizens, In this case, 9500 sex offenders wont have thier lives further ruined and controlled by the state of Indiana long after thier sentances are served.

The no hotels/motels rule is an unwritten state policy established before the new Secretary was appointed. The prevailing question is, will the new Secretary honor the unwritten policies establish prior to his tenure? If you believe the code of silence is alive and well then nothing will ever change unless the man on top is notified of this alleged abuse of power. Funny, not too long ago I read an article about how the new boss is getting bombarded by annonymous emails with similar complaints. I doubt one more would ruin his day.

I was dating a 21 year old when I was 15, with my parents permission. We had sex. My mom flipped, and pressed charges. He spent 1 year in jail and a couple years on probation. When I turned 18 I went to court and had the no contact order lifted. We got married and have a baby. My son is now 4 years old, and we just started getting harrassed about him being a SO. It was awful, and humiliating.
I agree with you about it pushing people over the edge. The SO list is unconstitutional, and represses your civil rights. My husband had judification withheld, and I am the victim, but the government don't care. The only way to get off the list is to get a full pardon from the governor, but the chances that he'd grant one for a SO if unlikely, no matter what the case. SO are looked at worse than the drug dealers who constantly get convicted, and released. I don't think people care about SO's families, or them. How can you get on with your life if you're being constantly harassed about your past. It's stressful and hard to deal with at times.

The travel policy changed this year. Coincidently, most of the changes were as a result of lax standards which resulted in a sex offender leaving the county who got in trouble for attempting to contact children at a park. There are still some issues pending as a result of this case so I can't go into more detail, but the point is there was a reason to tighten up on the policies. The Court can over rule the policy.
Polygraphs are voodoo and the polygraphers are quacks. But a question for you. Are you STILL in sex offender treatment after 7 years? You should have long since completed treatment. Perhaps it's time you found a different provider?
Not all providers are the same and certainly a change might be necessary depending on the circumstances. Perhaps we should be asking about why it appears this person is still in therapy instead of assuming it MUST be the therapist instead of the patient.
Warrantless searches have been a part of sex offender probation in your state for quite some time. It isn't a "new" policy.
Warrantless searches have been a standard condition of supervision for quite some time; however, emphasis on doing them with more frequency is the recent trend.
They can't GPS you if your conviction and sentence predates the law. Which yours does by a good 6 1/2 years. If they put one on you, you need to get a lawyer and sue the crap out of them.
Calm down Orolan. It depends. Some circuits in the state have a standard condition in regards to electronic monitoring where the language clearly states it's authorized by the Court and DOC discretion. Further, he might be talking about recent VOPs. Yes, the RSOs being violated and revoked now are getting GPS'd.

True. But how does a RSO deal with a situation where the rules change more often than you change your Fruit of the Loom underware when the people who made the rules are under investigation for criminal charges? It's difficult to have trust and faith in the system sometimes. There are certain things RSOs just have to quit whining about, but then there are some issues which really do need to be addressed properly. Just my 2 cents.....but then again I'm one of them, right?

If this is true then you must report this to central office immediately!! Verbal abuse is unacceptable. You do not have to give your real name if you are in fear of retaliation.

Deal with it means containing your anger and frustrations. While I agree the laws change day to day and those who make the laws are criminals themselves you dont win and succeed in life feeling that way. If you dont learn to overcome you will have self destruction of not only yourself but others around you and you lost the battle.
While I understand the frustrations by many rso I'd hate to see anyone go to the extremes of what Tim McVie did. I do know for fact it's a matter of time before someone does go off the deep end and does such an act.
I'd hate to see an RSO walk into a school straped with C4.
if you keep control of yourself and anger and work to try to change the system through lawsuits as I have avocated you will be more successful.
As a RSO I don't believe any lawsuit we submit is frivoulous. Once you start naming politicians in the law suit directly or your neighbors or a local goverment or LE then you will see changes that will remove some of the issues that are over bearing.

Not all providers are the same and certainly a change might be necessary depending on the circumstances. Perhaps we should be asking about why it appears this person is still in therapy instead of assuming it MUST be the therapist instead of the patient.
It is a given fact that with this particular therapist, you don't get out either until your probation is finished, or you sue in court. I don't know how it is in other States, but here we have to pay for the therapy ourselves. So who wants to give up a captive source of income?
I have completed all requirements for the group, read all 3 books in "phase 1", did my reports, and passed all my polygraphs. Went to "phase 2", finished my book and report for that phase and passed my final polygraph but "with issues". This is where the new polygrapher comes in. I asked the therapist, "if you review the video and see him extorting me, will this clear the "issue" up?" He agreed but magically the poligrapher "lost" the video due to a "technical malfunction". As the therapist said "Who should anyone believe, you or him?" I'm sure if I lost something like that I'd be charged with something. The "issue" was me saying I looked at pornography (which I didn't say but was in the report) Even though I passed when answering that question in the negative.
There is a reason that the Dept. of Naval Intelligence discontinued polygrapghs. Some of the faults cited were with the poligraphers and some cited with the psychology of them. If you want to know how polygraphs really work, please look it up. It has little to do with truth and more to do with your reaction which could mean many things.
As far as reporting that PO to a higher authority:
If there is one thing I have learned in probation, it's NOT to challenge anything. One SO got a court order to travel for business and the dept. head at probation still said he couldn't go. He said to the probationer "I'm gonna get you now." because he was mad that he got a Judge to over rule him. You wouldn't believe what this guy is like unless you witness it yourselves. He's a complete Nazi that works outside the bounds of anyone orders or any law and no one cares. What I am seeing now is a lot of authoroties getting drunk on power and having a ball abusing it knowing there are no consequences when it comes to sex offenders.
