Recently we had an occasion where LE was called and interviewed our kid.
The wife was at work, and the kid was home. I, of course was not home. The wife was returning home from work, but in the 15 minutes it took her to get home, the LE was alone in the home with the minor child.
The issue had nothing to do with sex offenses, but rather an issue of violence that had been witnessed. Actually quite a serious situation.
When the wife got home, she asked the normal questions, Are you ok? What did you see?
Then, being the snotty Libertarian she is, noting there was a police officer in her home uninvited, asked him (unfairly I think) "Have you been alone with my daughter in my home all this time?"
The officer was very shaken up simply being asked this question. he was very respectful and kind to everyone, so I felt this question was out of line, but the effect it had was tremendous.
It brings to light how powerful the hysteria of child sexual abuse can be when improperly used. Private companies making statements about no cures, and preying and such, propel the agenda to create hysteria-driven customers to purchase their services, like cell phone alerts if a RSO moves nearby.
So I thought, why not create a User's Guide for the hysteria. We all have had thoughts about what we could do to shock society.
My favorite would be to wear a I AM A SEX OFFENDER - BITE ME T-shirt to the police station.
Dropping implications seems to have a shocking effect.
If your child is not picked for a team, and another child is, asking the coach if she gets special services from certain vulnerable children, like sex, and thats why your kid was not picked.
Obviously this is partially a serious thread and partially one for humor.
Using these ideas could easily backfire and make things worse, but the entertainment value is priceless.
