Hello all. I am new here. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where the best place for an RSO to live so as not to be harassed, and the registration requirements are not to hard. Example, I know in Maryland (at least for now) you register once a year. Across the bridge in Virginia it is every 3 or 6 months. Can anyone provide any feedback? Thank you in advance for your help.

In Wisconsin, there are NO proximity laws and other such issues that you'll have to deal with. Here, you only have to register once every year or if you change address, unless you're a sexual predator, then it's once every 90 days. Illinois, where I'm originally from, has the same requirements, except there is a 500 ft. proximity law for child sex offenders. Yes, only 500 ft, not 1000, 2000, or 2500 ft.

Maryland is about to get worse.
Depending on your specific offense and your employability, North Carolina looks like the best all-around location these days. As far as I know they still require only annual mail-in verification.

Live where ever you feel like if there are no city requirements. If anyone harasses you file a complaint and a cival lawsuit. Im not to sure by what you mean to hard cause its only as hard as you make it. if you want to register once a year then move to that state. Never let the law dictate how happy you can be or anyone tell you how to live.Best thing to do is register as required and forget aboiut it till the next time. The registry isnt worth sweating over as its a joke in its current state. AS more registries become available for different types of crimes it will become even less important as it is now. It's all about your attitude. If you let it get in your way then it will be. laugh at it and enjoy life. Pee on those that step on your shoes and they wont do it anymore.

I wanted to know about where it is required only once a year. I am not able to find that info very easy on-line. Maybe I just do not know where to look.
Thanks.

I've always respected your positive "can do" attitude. However, I must say that moving can be helpful in some situations regardless of where you'd really like to live. A highly publicized case is a good example. I'm thinking if a certain RSO is always in the paper and as a result of the publicity their life is extremely difficult then it's probably in their best interest to move away as far as possible in hopes of living in an area where they aren't so popular. Just my 2 cents. Of course I don't know it that's the situation here, but if it is then I'd move to an area where the publicity hasn't tainted her reputation.

Yes I agree with your statement of moving. But I am looking at it from the point if someone is moving to escape their responsibilty and not accepting the facts.
I would urge people to move if they feel guilt about doing harm to the immediate family and want to spare them the embarrasment etc, I would also recommend it if they are doing so to better their lives. But let us not forget that the factors are still there to deal with and moving doesnt change much.
List of reasons offenders should move >
Family - protecting ones family is the #1 Priority
Employment _ as hard as it is to get a job that would be a reason to consider.
Finances. - Offenders need to be able to care for them selves inorder to be able to get back into the way of life prior to the offense with out offending again.
Law - unless you need a cot , 3 hots or some serious medical attention that you can't afford then I wouldn't violate the law. Its not worth the hassle.
I would not move for any other reason at all. cival lawsuits are available to offenders free of charge to hold the public accountable for harrasment and the first time you file a suit that person will want to forget you real quick.
