I just found out today that the RSOs reregistering in my county are not getting a copy of their registration paperwork; which basically means they have no proof they updated their sex offender registration as required twice a year.

What's wrong with this picture? Are all the other counties not providing proof of registration? I know they used to get proof under the old system. Sure they are sending them home with a copy of their local rap sheet, so what? That proves nothing.

well, my friend, maybe so they can slip in later and alter the info so they can violate them for FTR and the offender will have no proof that they registered. sounds like a plan to get them off the streets for 25 years!

some cities require you to carry a blue card while other LE holds it for you in thier file and from what im told anothe city LE can call for verification. It is not a required law to carry one or have one in the 3 states I reside. But definatley rso need to have documentation that they registered if that is the law of the city, state they are in.

I like the blue card idea. I agree they should carry proof with them for their own protection. I had plans to place a copy of their registration in their probation file for that very same reason. It never occured to me until my guy came back with nothing but a rap sheet that they weren't providing them with the pink copy like they did before. I have no real proof that he did in fact register. For all I know he may have spent the day at the beach then lied to me about his registration. How would I really know he didn't break the law and fail to register before it was too late? I can always dig around if I needed to but you get my point.

CA gives you a "receipt", you get a temp the day you register and they mail you the perm card to your registration addy.. and you BETTER be carrying the Perm card 10 business days after you register....

One year my Perm card fell out of my file into the bottom of the file cabinet., LE called me and said they were coming to jam me up. I beat them to the punch and went down there with my temp and copies of the FOUR memos I had sent to the LE (with copies to my PO) and my PO called them and verified he KNEW i had registered.

I got a phone call apology from the pervert detective.

However......... there was an 18 year old female registering with me this year, just turned 18 and had to re-register because she was FINALLY allowed to go to a college........ her mom told us (all the RSOs were talking this year!!) that it took nealry an act of god for her to get accepted in to a school.

Lots of changes this year.......... RSOs were all talking to each other, sharing stories. Most have lost hope, half were homeless, have to register every 90 days. Several voiced leaving the US, and one (hehehe, guess who) said loudly he wants to leave the US and live in Iran, the people there would welcome a combat veteran more than the US does. Oh man did I get a look from the Deputy, lol.

I think I am being followed......... shhhhh.

sounds like the sheriff's office in your county is violating the law..maybe you should have FDLE arrest them.

When my husband reregistered in Florida in December he received copies. He also received copies when he went in to let them know he was moving. When we went to register him in our new State we were about to go out the door when I realized we hadn't received copies. I went back over and told the Officer we wanted a copy. He said a copy of what? I said a copy proving that he just registered with this state. He said no one has ever asked for a copy. I said, that is their ignorance and we insist on a copy so he gave us one. What was really funny was I was quizzing the Officer during the registration and he didn't know the laws. I gave him the correct answers. That is really sad when the Officer doing the registration doesn't know what the law is. How many people may get a failure to register charge over these things?

In December your hubby would have been registered with the new registration forms. Did they make a copy or pull the pink or yellow carbon copy and hand it to them? My county says they mail the entire package up to FDLE. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Of course the PO needs a copy. Duh!!!! And yes the registerant does too believe it our not.

They gave him the pink copy for his records. Also, they had him sign his name to a blank piece of paper and he had them give him that piece of paper as well. (It was on a computer board and put his signatiure on the form in the computer). What I didn't agree to was they filled out the form in the computer and had him sign, then printed it. Once it was printed he realized he had signed stating they had gone over the law with him. They didn't do that until after he had signed and they printed it all out. I videotaped the whole thing.

you are the one who said they are not giving the registerant a copy of the registration...and i know i would ask for one....and would hope the others are as smart to...so therefore if they are leaving without one then the sheriff's dept must have refused to give it to them....damnn...i think that is illegal...

Keep in mind that the law says the Sheriff has to take down the information and must transmit it to FDLE. It doesn't say anything else. Doesn't say they have to give the offender anything. Doesn't even say the information must be correct. And if it isn't, that's automatically the offender's fault because he MUST have lied.
LEA and LEO's have absolutely NO responsibilty or culpability in this thing. That's the way it's supposed to be, because it opens the door for another way to get offenders in prison without them actually committing any sort of offense.

If SB0012 passes and becomes law July1st, te DOC will take over the emplementation and upkeep of the registry. new forms and requirements to register at some new place are all going to happen. I went with my SO tennant when he registered the last time. They gave him copies of his registration form and he keeps those papers on him like he was in the former USSR just waiting for smeone to say "Pokazhit' bud' laska dokumenty" or in english "show me your papers, please"

I'm surprised she didn't video tape her post. Geez, good thing hubby got her a camera for X-mas..... without that she probably would have made him register 37 times just to be sure he doesn't get framed for a FTR. lol

In the county I supervise in, the registrants are given their copy at that time. No waiting until later, etc.

Sorry it took so long to post my response, I was out conducting clandestine operations and training in the field of Child Abuse, Sex Offenders and Perverts.

I was out conducting clandestine operations

Window-peeping, eh?:-))
training in the field of Child Abuse, Sex Offenders and Perverts

Mind if I ask what this training was?
Classes by trained psychologists?
Rants by misguided people who think it's OK to try and beat a kid to death for hitting their car with a ball but abhor the idea of somebody seeing that same kid naked?
Procedures on how to spot indications of abuse?
Valid facts on just who presents the greatest danger to children?
Inquiring minds want to know.

No window peeping, but some other looking was involved, and I wore rubber golves . Felt good to put on my black swat attire, strap on my belt, and lace up my boots (LOL)!

As for the training, it was related to sex crimes, torture, sex abuse, and perverts. No it was not a psychologist, but retired investigators (from another state). Different aspects and types of child abuse were covered, to include, but not limited to sex abuse.

I still haven't recovered from viewing all the photos and videos.
