http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/internetprivacy/2005-12-12-online-dating-checks_x.htm
True.com is using American Fear to enhance business competition for online dating sites.
Match.com and others oppose the legislation to require background checks for online dating sites. Their position is that forcing background checks create a false sense of security. We, sex offenders, have heard and stated this many times before concerning certain legislation efforts, especially the banishment and exile laws crossing the country.
The article goes on state that In 2001, 1.6 million people subscribed to an online dating site, says Andrew Peach, research director for Jupiter Research, an Internet market research company in New York City. By 2004, there were 4.7 million subscribers.
That is amazing growth!
Entrepreneurs reading this will have a clear idea where I am headed.
The http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/crs.htm U.S. Department of Justice • Office of Justice Programs reports that there are 71 million criminal(felon) records in the United States. They do state that some individuals may have records in multiple states.
A criminal history record describes any arrests and subsequent dispositions attributable to an individual
Lets say, for this discussion that 21 million of those records are redundant when considering the individual. Somewhere there may be an exact number of Felons in the USA.
That leaves 50 million felons in the United States.
Everyone deserve to have someone who loves them and the chance to find that someone. True.com has officially stated that felons are not welcomed in the American Society they wish to legislate.
I propose we create a new society to take advantage of the technology available today. A Felon-welcomed dating site. It would be for felons to meet each other or a place for Felons to be contacted by people who lack the Felon-Fear gene.
Background checks would not be required because there is no veil of secrecy, members are at the site because they are felons looking for people who are part of our new society.
There would be some ground rules, like any dating site. All felons would be welcome, including sex offenders. However fugitives would not be welcome, only people who have served their incarceration time. Parolees and Probationers are welcome.
Membership fees would be on a sliding scale relative to the status of the applying individual.
Non-Felons = $50 per month
Blue-Collar felons = $40 per month
Non-Weapon Felons = $30 per month
Violent Non-Sexual Felons $20 per month
Sex Felons = $10 per month
Murderers = $5 per month
We would use True.com’s marketing strategy and manipulate the media perfectly. We would use the words exclusion, exile, banishment and phrases like “cast out” and other terms that would be humorous to non Felons. Felons however would understand and hopefully seek out a place where they would feel welcome, outside of True.com and American society in general.
We outnumber the population of many countries and we have a level of power and we allow our shame and secrecy of our past to prevent us from flexing that power.
If 10-30% of felons in the US were to join, the site would be a success. There would also be looky-loos, people who were curious, some of these would be the people who spend hours staring at the RSO websites. We would get at least month out of them, maybe more with automatic billing like other sites use!
It is time to recognize the truth, and ironically it is a business called True.com that is telling the truth. Felons are not welcome in America, they are not part of society and it is time for Felons to unite and create their own society, their own networks, jobs, cities and create their own self-sufficiency. Trying to succeed in current American society is part of what leads to the high recidivism rates, we simply cannot overcome the legal discrimination we face, so we turn back to crime. True.com deserves to be recognized for exposing this truth, that felons are no longer welcome.
A Felon friendly dating site would be catalyst for a uniting movement, a movement that will offer success and pride, and most of all, hope. Felons, discuss this with your families and loved ones and bring them into the fold. There are plenty of sites and businesses and organizations that exclude us, isn’t it time we exclude “them?” The time has come for change, we have the numbers, we have lost most hope, it is time Felons. 2006 is the year of change.
“And from them a leader arose, and he led them to salvation.”

Truly amazing. I read that story in the print issue of USA Today at lunch and had the same thought. An online dating service that catered to people that the other services shun. They think they want just the "beautiful people", never stopping to think that a "normal" person who must resort to the Internet to get a date has some serious issues beyond a shoplifting conviction;-))
Let's fire it up. MainSqueeze.com

We have a year to develop the site, secure VC funds and launch. I do not think Mainsqueeze.com will come cheap. I have a few domains I could sell off to buy it, but I was saving up to buy rotating.com for resale to a new Russian vibration analysis developer.
We'll think of something.

As part of my research into the potential for creating a felon dating website, I searched for direct competition.
I yahoo'd "felon dating"
7 hits
2 deadlinks
1 link from officer.com about cops and felons dating
1 link from a warez or gaming site
1 from a blind link, or for sale domain
1 from a site that slams companies
and 1 from a very ugly and bitter female who dated a felon without knowing it.
Proof again that honesty is the best policy and that a site that caters to felons removes that veil of secrecy.
Now I need help.
Is such a site legal? Are felons permitted to contact and date each other?
Anyone know?

Whenever people arelumped into a group and feel excluded for whatever reason, those people bond and tend to prefer to associate only with other people of their "kind"
http://www.qiran.com/index.asp
There are plenty of white, bitter divorced single mom dating sites.
We will have our own site within 12-15 months.

Absolutely.

Supposed to be a "free" country. Some restrictions for those on supervision of course. But the other 20 million are free to do as they wish;-))

Excellent
I have contacted several VC firms.
Only one has responded, but with apositive outlook. They of course want a detailed business plan(in progress).
This is an old idea for me, but for the first time actual work is in progress.
I have started and failed at several businesses, mostly because of my lack of belief in the business. This time, I am living it. It is more than a business, it is a movement.
I have the domain picked out, will secure it next month, wife maxed out my credit cards again for Christmas......... grrrrrr.
If I can secure VC funds, I will simply hire a qualified non-felon to manage the business while I complete my probation.
Ironically the VC firm that responded is from France!! LOL
Lots of work to do, very little will get done over the next few weeks. School is out and I need to be "away" all day starting tomorrow.

Excellent. I know a non-felon who would be great for the job. She's spent the last five years or so running criminal background checks from her home:-))
And she'd work cheap!

Our fellow member DP1 can give you some excellent advice, but if you would like some advice from a RSO I have a few key points:
1. Read the T&Cs of probation carefully and anything that sounds vague, ask for written clarification.
2. Once you are both comfortable with the rules, find a way/ways to work within the rules, not around them. POs are well-trained to recognize a supervision malingerer, but they also can see when someone is working wthin the rules.
3. Establish and maintain a respectful relationship with the PO. Believe it or not, the PO will be your strongest ally, as long as you follow # 1&2 above. If you work around the rules the PO will less inclined to be your ally.
Be the PO. My wife is my PO. She checks me, my machine, she makes me observe the rules daily, while my PO only checks me periodically. If you are tougher than the PO, he will be safe, you will be safe and the sacrifices will be worth it. It will not be easy, but usually the right thing is the hardest thing to do.
Be prepared for him to not be allowed to live at home. Start a business and hire him as an employee. Pay him with a 1099, as food and services. Finding a good job will be his hardest challenge.

Is he in jail. Or out? You said he is in therapy and you went with him? Is it in the jail? I'm a little confused.
Probation is as hard as you make it. I'm 15 months short of ten years on sex offender probation. It has been hell, but as stories that can be read around here will show, I brought on a lot of that myself. Mostly because I'm just that kind of guy. I push to see how far before they push back.
There is NO need for your husband to do that. Just follow the rules. You will need to be his helper there, as Renny said. Be his "at home PO".
How much time will he have, and wil lthey allow the children to stay? Have you asked about that?

hehehe. We all know Florida PO's have ZERO tolerance, right?
Hey Cass - it's good to know things seem to be working for you guys. Just remember that Florida WILL extradite. It doesn't matter how quickly we transfer cases out of the state - we DO bring them back and make them serve time if they aren't behaving themselves. Good luck to you both.

Already one out there. Although it can be costly to join. Some are given assistance to be a registered member, non offenders can check it out without cost. Their offenses are clearly stated.
This is the site: http://www.dc.state.fl.us/ActiveOffenders/
All you have to do is enter the desired information, and viola!!!!!

Proposals for site development have been received and processed.
Dozens of affordable marketing outlets have been identified.
Site will mimic a clever mixture of Adult Friend Finder, LinkedIn and Myspace.
Merchant account, and ownership protection are still pending.
Not sure how to ensure I make some $$ from this venture.
Form a corporation and sell shares to the foriegn investor?
Sole Prop and give up majority of profits to VC?
Moving ahead too quickly, I am falling behind on some things.
I have started and sunk or sold over ten companies, this could be the biggest one yet. My maintenance company that was sold to ABB in Richmond was the biggest until this venture.
Any of my people have an idea how to draw in our target customers? Wife suggested prisoner family support groups and lawyer firms and Outlaw Biker magazine, lol.
P.S. My ex had a half-page layout in OB years ago. What a wild day that was!
I am asking for $200k for startup, mostly for marketing and a webmaster for a year.
Thoughts from my people?

Venture capital won't touch something involving an investment of only $200k. Without a working service it's doubtful they'd touch it anyway. If you had proven success with similar ventures, a strong board of investors, a plan that they perceived as low-risk and high-reward, you might get some funding at the stage you're at (this is 2006, not 1998 after all). Your best bet is too self-fund / self-finance or seek an angel. Of course, many will probably consider your idea controversial and won't consider it.

Val and Rebel can sympathize with this.
Was reading the Green sheet and saw multiple ads that had bars across the ad that read in big bold block letters:
LATIN STAFFED
In the donut shop this am I asked someone about that. They said that there is a big movement in SoCal for latins to only shop or buy services owned by other latins, that only staff with latins.
That is not really a big surprise, the Chinese do it in NY and LA.
With over 12 million felons, we too could do this. Would it have an effect on the economy, unlikely, since there would be so few places to shop, lol.
What I was wondering about a latin staffed business that caters to only latins, how does anyone get service when everyone is cutting in line?
