Welcome to the forum offenderswife. No, it is not fair, and I quite agree that it is double jeopardy. However, the vote grabbing politicians are too blind to see what their protectionism is doing. They are all minimizing the harm that is done by rationalizing that they are protecting the public. One day it is going to bite them in the behind big time. They don't even realize that the registries pose a national security threat since they can be exploited by terrorists.

Now, I am not a lawyer. However, your husband may have some recourse concerning the $60 registration fee. Basically, the registration fee is a civil penalty, and a court recently ruled that he can't be thrown in jail if he does not pay it. Now, I am not suggesting that he doesn't pay it either.

in tennessee...recently ..all sex offenders had to register with their local law enforcement......they were read their rights...finger printed and picture taken.....they are not allowed to live in the same household as a non related minor does........my question is this.....does this seem like double jeaperdy.....when my husband was convicted in1989 he received a 12 yr sentence for aggrevated sexual battery......that was his sentence......never did his sentence read that he would serve 12 years and then be on parole for life.....he  has to meet with an officer every 3 months for the rest of his life....he has to pay 60.00 a year to the police department.......he was classified a violent offender only because his victom was a minor.........hes been out for 7 years...has 6 children and 3 stepchildren....has a good job....has had no problems......but now we run the risk of someone seeing his picture on the internet and turning our life upside down.......all to protect the children.....well im all for protecting the children......but what about the 9 children that we have that keep getting victomized by the law.............now i know what my husband did was wrong....he knows that.....but he didnt physically hurt his victom...he didnt even have sex with her....and she has forgiven him for what he did when he was 26yrs old...hes 44 now....is his debt to society ever paid.....
