It has come to my attention that a small number of private messages are being written without the recipient's username being written to the backend database. Any such message will never be seen by the recipient. So far I have been unable to determine the cause of the problem or duplicate it in testing. The number of private messages affected this calendar year is 7 out of 2,442 (0.3%).

In addition to making you aware of the issue, I want to show you how to determine if any of your private messages have been affected and invite any users who've been affected to share any information that might help me track down and fix the problem.

After logged in, click "Private Messages" from the top menu, then click "Sent Messages", then look for any messages where the entry in the "Recipient" column is blank. If you discover one, please email me the date/time, who you think you sent it to, whether you want me to add the recipient to the message for you and anything you can remember about posting the message that may be useful - such as whether you got an error message, you were logged out after posting it, etc.

When this bug has been fixed, I will post to this thread. Until then, I advise periodically checking for problem messages using the steps above.

See an abbreviation or acronym, but don't know what it stands for? Consult the Glossary.
