Abused and Neglected, Millions of Children Have Become Virtually Invisible
LONDON, 14 December 2005 -– Hundreds of millions of children are suffering
from severe exploitation and discrimination and have become virtually
invisible to the world, UNICEF said today in a major report that explores
the causes of exclusion and the abuses children experience.
The agency said that millions of children disappear from view when
trafficked or forced to work in domestic servitude. Other children, such
as street children, live in plain sight but are excluded from fundamental
services and protections. Not only do these children endure abuse, most
are shut out from school, healthcare and other vital services they need to
grow and thrive.
(This article specifically mentions punishment is critical for those who would abuse our kids)

lets not forget the children who are sold like meat to the highest bidder. For things that I really don't even want to imagine, but have, and its not just girls it is also women. Its something that women, and girls who are attrative think is an easy way to get to America for a better life, then they are fooled and its called "Sex Trafficing".

I appreciate your thread "surprized" but I dont think it was intentional, "tis the season" so to speak and I am sure many here are as overwhelmed as I am starting to be ...lets face it, the majority of people who post in this forum are women, and in the same breath they are the ones responsible for alot of other people's holiday cheer. We are down to the wire and last night I thought of many other things I needed to do before Christmas, in fact thats what has gotten me up at 5:30 this am...Merry Christmas mom...

Too much. The children of the world will have to wait until we figure out how to protect our own.
Watched a documentary on sundance about the czech republic and the mass of kids that live on the streets. It's horrifying. People treat them like garbage. Literally. The police do not take them seriously. The most they will do is return them to the homes or orphanages they ran away from.
But we do the same thing in the US. It's always in the hands of the state or the parents. It is NEVER in the hands of the children themselves.
We can't solve these problems here without some constitutional strengthening of children's rights. Look up the NYRA on google and go to there forums and read. But you have to read them all to find the ones that will tear your heart out.. A lot of kids are just disgruntled with their parents. Some are being raped and seriously abused and their is nothing they can do about it. They are scared to death of putting their lives into the hands of LE and the state. I don't blame them. They are in trouble becasue they have no control and LE and the state will certainly not give them that.
All they will get from them is more disruption of their lives and worse the state social workers will continue to rape and abuse them with a look of love and pity in their eyes.
I've been strapped down on a guerney and had drugs shot into my veins against my will by big scary interns with looks of pity on their faces. When someone is in trouble they need to be listened to. The only way to insure that is to make laws that give the individual the right to speak and the right to choose their own treatment.

I'm with ya on that one. This is why internet shopping and egg nog recipes are sooooo wonderful. I'm still writing Christmas cards out. Last night I went to the post office and they ran out of stamps....talk about stress.....it's all good...got the tree, kids gifts and daddy is home....anything above and beyond that is icing on the cake.

i guess that is what is wrong in today's society. they are to caught up in the material things that this country has to offer, to worry about children, and even the elderly to worry about them all the time. I guess it is just when it's convinent.

Lots of us do this work on a daily basis and have done so for many years. For me personally, I don't QUITE have the ability to take on the ENTIRE worlds problems, I'll make it part of my New Years Resolution.
The problem in the world is alot of people talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

well i am talking the talk and walking the walk, my mother won't bring her sorry self up here to give her own grandchildren their gifts because of her controlling sex abusing husband. I have been told to completely cut her out of my life, for my own sanity. and believe me i will. and am. And I was only saying in theory about the world and the children. But since you brought it own up, we spend more money helping other countries, than we do are own. so tell me, who cares about more about this country. someone needs to, and if its not the goverment, it sure needs to be a citizen. there is a movie called pay back. some people in the forum should check it out. Maybe a good eye opener. I did so on Sunday, and it turns out to be true.

I take it mom that your Christmas was not as happy and merry as you would have liked it to be. Sorry about that. I can feel thru your post your anger.

its not so much anger as it is disgust. my mother, or lack there of nowadays, taught me to be strong and independent. but she doesn't have the backbone to do the same. i believe that she is nothing more than a material person, and if she can't bring her sorry self up here to see her grandchildren, then they don't need her or her gifts. Not to mention when your own mother lacks the emotional care to sit and laugh when you are in pain, severe may i add that she laughs at you, she is no longer a person, but a predator of a persons feelings and i don't need her. she is not a healthy person to be around. And yes i had a good Christmas, on one hand, didn't have to go there, but on other, was sick as a dog, and need medical help.

Joe citizen ARE doing alot of work stopping violence against kids/adults, physical/sexual abuse. We are everywhere! We're on this forum, we're in your community, we're at state capitals, we're in schools, at prisons, at s/o therapy groups! Everywhere!
Side note: People that work in this field do not make wages that will get them on the Forbes List, but do the work because they are compassionate and caring people that WANT to make a difference, regardless of what side of the coin we're on.
