I have been trying to think how this site could be a more user-friendly place for victims and also serve an educational purpose.

I thought perhaps that one thing that might be useful for victims that come to this site is a list of resources, readings, etc. specifically designed for victims of sexual assault or abuse and their loved ones. I know that there are a lot of victim resources already on the web but my own experience is that a lot of the sites tend to be politicized and have an agenda or they tend to be stuck in victimhood. I don't always feel comfortable at those sites either. I mean when victims talk about how they've been raped by Satan and his minions or how the first sexual assault they remember was when they were in their mother's womb and you daren't question that because to do so would be "invalidating" well...This is one of the few sites that doesn't really seem to be like that. Unfortunately for victims it is rather top-heavy right now with SO's and their issues and agendas. I am not saying that SO's shouldn't have a place here. I would just like to balance things up a bit.

I know that you have a library here but it is pretty hard to tell without going through the whole thing what each thing is about. I'm not knocking what you have already, Steve and I know you only have so much time in your day. I would be willing to help out. I am thinking more of abstracts with possibly reviews, opinions by users. It might be useful to have it organized under specific headings, ie. Dealing with Law Enforcement, Mental Health Issues, Supporting a Victim, etc. Victims could post their own successes or things that have hindered their progress. Personally I would prefer that this was a victim-only or at least heavily moderated forum. What some people (not just RSO's) think of as helpful advice for victims like "get over it" or "think of it as a learning experience" might not always seem that helpful to victims. On the other hand some of the best advice and empathy I have received here came from someone who often seems to side with offenders (Silverthorne). Believe me it is not very easy to imagine what victims and their families go through unless you have been there. I didn't have a clue how damaging it could be until it happened to us. I might have even been one of those people saying "think of it as a learning experience" and I consider myself fairly compassionate. Thoughts?

I like your thoughts Mom and would be interested in reading recent information on victim issues.
