I could not resist the urge and yes, I am posting in the victims forum. This is simply insane. The 12 year old girl could not consent to have sex, yet is being charged with a crime that could, depending upon the state, follow her for life well into adulthood. Sometimes I think all these types of cases need to be handed as a mental health issue, NOT a criminal issue. It might be more productive for the State to find out what reason, if any, this girl acted out in such a fashion. Had she been taught these things? Quite possible, and if so, find the teacher. I mean its like a darn Dracula movie........ you can kill all the junior vampires, but until you get Dracula, there will be more and more and more. Keep her in counseling and try to pretect her from herself and from Americans. They will hurt her if they get the chance. Consider leaving the United States and raising her someplace else. Oh my God! another "Must report sexual abuse" travesty forced on our "Professionals." I cannot type right now. I am too angry over this. Legislators must get out of the therapy business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the tragedy that all this hysteria has created. Some will say there is nothing innocent about your granddaughter's "play". Never mind that if she had been "playing" with a 13 year-old she would suddenly be a "victim" and the state would be after the 13 year-old. Your granddaughter is guilty of nothing except being the older of the two persons involved. Send me a PM. I may have a way to help you if there is time. I assume the state has at least appointed her an attorney? If so, delay, delay, delay. CBEJA, I don't know the details of your financial constraints, but it is worth doing almost anything you can to keep her out of the juvenile system and get her some private therapy. What some state therapists do to kids who are "sexual offenders" is WORSE than child molestation, it is child torture. The web site Ethical Treatment for All Youth http://www33.brinkster.com/ethical gives a few examples of this. Feel free to PM me if you want more info or to network with people in similar situations. Looks like "therapy" is what got her into this mess in the first place. And to think that some people don't understand why families prefer to keep things like this under wraps. Cases like this coupled with lifetime registration and the resultant harassment and ostracism are pushing the fight against sexual abuse back 50 years. All in the name of "protecting the children". You're right, of course, but now that the issue is out in the open, the choice is, nutso state therapists or--if such are available in Idaho--*competent* private ones. I don't think *no* therapy is a real option at this point, unless she takes Ren's advice of fleeing the country! That would probably be best for the kids.... Why not find an attorney to protect the rights of your granddaughter? I can only speculate from what you wrote here that something more than the "usual" curiosity took place. From all my years experience in court, do not depend on a public defender for proper representation here. Go out and spend the bucks and get a qualified attorney. Remember this: You hire an attorney to work for you. Find one that will represent your granddaughter's best interest. Why not find an attorney to protect the rights of your granddaughter? I think she said the attorney wanted more money than they had. Lawyers don't work for free, and good ones aren't cheap. no, therapy helps. If you think you have a Nutzo one then you have the wrong one. Therapists (and priests, and doctors etc.) required to report crimes is whacked out. True, I understand the philosphy but the result is that people will stop seeking help. So you have an untreated offender roaming the 'hoods....SMART! Do not run, if caught, you could lose all contact with both grandchildren, and this is not the time they need to be without family, nor is it the time for them to be uprooted, that will just increase their fear and anxiety, which often leads to acting out. Try as hard as you can to find someone the older girl can trust, not all therapists or lawyers are money hungry or untrustworthy. Those who create more hysteria are not helping this person. I can almost guarantee something was done to the older child, and the law wouldn't be involved if it wasn't serious, if anything, they don't act more often on cases which leads to this vicious cycle. Her age, and her possible victimization should help with leniency, but don't try to run or to deny, that is the worst thing you can do for all of you. And before any of you jump on me, I am both a victim and mother to 2 victims, and I have worked in the medical/mental health and legal fields. Perhaps alleged perpetrators shouldn't be lumped in a guilty till proven innocent category, but professionals shouldn't be in an assumed to be unethical category, either.
