Most if not all states require that persons convicted of sex crimes under the UCMJ must register. A few, like Maryland and Georgia to name a couple, go further in stating that if the actual offense would have been a sex crime under local law regardless of what charge the conviction was for, the person must register.
So it really depends on where the person resides now and what his conviction was for.
