The answer is not really clear. On the surface, sexual activity between a student and a teacher is illegal, up to age 18. That's the "black and white" of it.
On the other hand, the age of consent is 16. An argument can be made that the relationship was consensual, and the law violates equal protection. After all, the relationship would be perfectly legal if the actor were NOT a teacher.
