Im sorry to hear you were raped. Personnally I know of many rapists that were never charged because the victims were to afraid to press charges as many are afraid of being violated all over again in a court of law, where even proving the crime poses challenges. Congradulations for being strong and reporting it, as that takes a lot of guts. Check out:
The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) is the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization. RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE and carries out programs to prevent sexual assault, help victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice. Inside, you'll find statistics, counseling resources, prevention tips, news and more. website: http://www.rainn.org/
P.S. Hope your in counsiling, as contrary to popular belief the process of healing from rape can take a lifetime.

harleyanne,
First off, you didn't provide enough information for anyone to really help you. So I'm going to ask some questions and then give an example.
Q. Did you report your rape ? Q. If you did, were charges filed ? Q. Did it go to trial or did the men accept a plea agreement ? Q. Were the men convicted convicted ? Q. If they were convicted, WHAT were they convicted of?
All this makes a difference.
And, you don't say where you are located, that also makes a difference.
OK. Now I'm going to "assume" that you did report the rape, that the DA believed you, and that the men were arrested and initially charged with rape.
Ok, now for some harsh realities: In MANY instances, the DA's office will offer individuals like this a plea bargin where they will plead guilty to a lessor crime so that the DA's office gets an automatic conviction and doesn't have to go through the expense of an actual trial. It also saves you from the embarassment of having to testify. HOWEVER, it also means that the guilty party is NOT convicted of the serious crime they really committed and they won't be punished to the same degree either. If the DA's office did offer them a plea bargin, AND they DID accept it, then the charge they pled gulty to may not require them to be on the on-line sex offender registry or wherever you are, so you WON'T find them their because based upon thier listed crime, they aren't dangerous enough to show.
I know this isn't fair or right, (especially to you and your peace of mind), but that's the way the system works.
The best I can advise you is to find out the answers to the questions I asked, THEN come back and tell us. There are MANY survivors in here that are more than willing to help you. There are also many offenders in here that are willing to help. You just need to give us the information and the chance to do so.
Please keep us informed,
warmest,
s.s.

Alot depends on the state (assuming you reported it and they were convicted). If Megan's Law wasn't in effect in your state when they were convicted they won't appear on the registry. Most states (like California recently) have said you can't retroactively charge someone for old offenses nor can they be forced to register if the registry wasn't in effect when they weren't convicted.
While some states have made the registry retroactive most haven't.

Go to the county of their conviction. Call the D.A. that prosecuted the case and ask him that question.
