I caught my 10yr old son driving a car!
He is more mature than most kids his age, and his body is developed several years beyond his age. When I caught him driving a car (with the help of a less responsible member of my family) I was upset.
My son consented and enjoyed driving the car. My question to you, the enlighted readers of this webpage, is he should be allowed to continue driving a car?

Is this for real, or are you "baiting"?
Jokes aside, I learned how to drive a 2 1/2 ton Ford with a 2-speed axle at 12. While fully capable on the farm and later on mountain roads, I'm not so sure I was ready for the city or the Interstate.
To answer your question, my gut reaction is to say no, he shouldn't be allowed to drive a car in the same way you and I can drive a car. He may be physically mature, but he isn't old enough or experienced enough to make the snap decisions needed to drive a car without endangering the lives of others. Heck, I know some adults who shouldn't be driving either, for the same reasons.

A modern-day parable, I suspect!
10-year old kids driving a car or having sex--many a parent would most likely be upset catching them on the either-or.
Laws abound regarding driving a car on public roads at that early of an age; schools nowadays, though, prepare 10-year olds for sexual experiences by teaching them about it at an early age.
It's called "enlightenment!"

I did indeed catch my son driving a car. No joke.
My point is this - Should I allow him to continue?
And if you say yes - then should I not allow this young man begin sex? Same skill set - No?

Not a fair comparison.
Your son having sex will affect him and his partner.
Your son driving a car on the Interstate at 70 MPH has the potential to affect the lives of hundreds of other people.
So no, you shouldn't allow him to drive. Unless it is like my youth, where you have 700 acres of fields and private farm roads for him to drive on. That way his driving affects only him.

I love your post and the responses are hilarious. I think some of the same thoughts when I read posts on this site in reference to be being in favor of having sex with children or complaints about the so registry. It blows my mind just like seeing a 10 year old drive a car on I75 at 70 mph. Great analogy.

How so? Emotional trauma? Unable to accept the facts? Pregnancy shouldn't be an issue, because as a responsible parent you explained to your son what a condom was and how to use one. Ditto the girl's parents.

Teenagers are the group with the highest growing number of HIV/STDS. Teenage girls are the most likely to have under weight premature infants. Teenage girls are not (except in unusual cases) through with highschool, they are not employable, and I see a great many, along with their children, become wards or the state.
