More questions for A Mom

A Mom,

From the sounds of it your son is being treated fairly by the system I wanted to touch base on a couple issues.

1) You said the therapist was concerned he was still attracted to minors. Did she indicate this was the cause of his original offense (attraction) and that it wasn't a "crime of the moment"? Why does she feel this way?

2) Does your son have any age-appropriate friends either male or female?

3) Does your son participate in any sporting events or anything like that (social network)?

4) Has your son had a boy or girlfriend at this point?

A healthy social network is critical to recovery. I myself while suffering from pedophilia for years have never acted out. I've had the benefit of the best therapy money can buy and I'm in pretty decent shape. One thing my therapist worked with me on was developing healthy friendships and social contacts. People need someone (and parents don't count) they can just engage with. If your son is a 'loner' without many friends he could have real problems developing healthy relationships in the future.
