Interesting question, but, you would have to know how many pedophiles there are first, right??? Doesn't that change daily, hourly, etc.,
I really don't think that the question can be answered, without further qualification. i.e., country, city, town, or some area, or breakdown, jail-prison, male-female, and then you still need to know how many pedophiles are in that grouping before you can calculate the percentages. That could require significant psych alalysis too.
As to the claim "They are born that way," wow I'd love to have the same knowledge the person who makes that claim has. There could be significant money in the birth-testing, if it could be validated.
If any study has been done I'd love to read it, just to see how they drew the geographical lines, or however it was divided up.

There is no such study. The main reason is pedophiles don't really advertise and theres no where to go for help. Society has made it the scarlet letter illness and people just keep it quiet.
Steve posted that study that had some numbers relating to how many child molesters were actually pedophiles. I guess you could extrapilate that number somehow to the overall population but I'm not sure how it would turn out.

Given the propensity to mis-label "pedophiles", I doubt there is any data that is accurate. At least, I have never been able to find anything I would consider to be credible.
So if anybody out there knows of some data, I too would like to know.

Theres no stat like that I'm aware of. Mostly because there is no accurate count of how many pedophiles there are (assuming you mean diagnosed).
I do wonder though if diagnosis is really the criteria used (as it should be) if there is SOME kind of statistic.
I'll use my own case here to make a wild guess. Keep in mind this is only a guess.
In my time in therapy groups I've met four other pedophiles who were voluntarily in treatment like myself. They hadn't committed crimes but were there on their own.
Out of the five of us total I'm aware that two of them later acted out. One of the two infact had already acted out but lied about it in group (and passed a polygraph) and was then arrested with a 12 year old in a car with his pants down.
The other one was diagnosed a pedophile (young girls) and he was later arrested for fondling his granddaughters (he was in his 60's).
So using that "example" case study of five people including myself the number of pedophiles that offend would come in at 40%.
Keep in mind this is hardly accurate but its a ballpark figure.

Pedophilia means sexual attraction to children but it takes on many different forms. Some people like me are whats called "fixated pedophiles". Our age of attraction is set in stone and inflexible. Then theres the H.Pierce variety that while liking youngsters can also perform with adults (more a preference then anything else as either will work).
The study I posted a link to a few months ago in Canada mentioned a breakdown of certain types of sex offenders and their recidivism rates. Not exact but the numbers were around:
4% of incest offenders reoffended.
15% of non-incest offenders reoffended.
39% of fixated sex offenders reoffended.
I think alot of it has to do with alternatives. While some people with pedophilia (like myself) have alternatives (I've started seeing someone - male in his 30's - and we're spending some time together) to sexual abstinence some people can't cope without that contact.
In my case in the past and now I've made a decision to seek out adult partners even though its not my first choice (or any choice) but simply because I need SOME physical contact. Masturbation and ammonia capsules just dont do it all the time. There has to be "something" else.
For the fixated pedophile with no outlets, therapy or social skills its a recipe for disaster. I'd estimate over 50% of these people will eventually commit some kind of sex crime be it molestation, pornography, obsecene phone calls, window peeping or whatever. They have no outlets.

ty silver, wow see this is what I meant, even at 30%, it is alot, I mean you all, (not being rude to anyone, k?), anyhow, we have had alot of talk of the issue that not all pedophiles molest, well maybe not ALL, but even at 40%, I find it alot, I need to get much info together for the ghost writer, I ty you all, in advance.
