Silverthorne,
I'm quite sure s/he is speaking about California's prospective candidate for Governor, quite a movie star, Arnold (can't spell last name).
In a late smear campaign, for the moment I say that, since no woman has come forward to my knowledge alleging what is being said, Arnold has been ACCUSED of "Groping" a few women during his movie career.
This is what I have been reading about, and believe "poetsdreamscape" is alluding to.

I believe Rob is correct. And he hit the nail on the head with his description of this being a "smear campaign".

Not that I care either way, but women alleging misconduct have in fact spoken with the newspapers. That, and the candidate's own affirmative defense of his behavior, pretty much rules out a smear campaign in my mind.

But in that vein, the Kobe Bryant case is interesting to watch in terms of how outsiders view the case. Kobe comes out of the court room, and supporters are saying, "Kobe couldn't have done this because he is such a good basketball player."
Did I miss something about the connection between sexual offense(s) and the ability to play basketball being a shield from that kind of behavior? I looked at the people who said that and immediately thougth, "Those must be the alternate jurors from the OJ Simpson case!"

Think Clintn set that standard. At least the women Clinton groped filed their complaints within the same decade of the incident!
Having met the Mahn, (and personally not impressed) I haven't seen one ounce of credible information that could prove his behavior is that of a sex offender. Or are they waiting to show the documentation, photos, whatever, after he gets elected, so there can be another rediculous "recall" election. And what happens when that persons credibilty gets smeared? Another "Total Recall"?
Women follow this man like they are dogs in heat, as do lots of women to athletes, movie stars or politicians, and probably, at the time of the incident, went bragging about how Ahnold grabbed their butt to their friends. I have seen women openly expose their breast to him, make inappropriate comments to him, and he just walked on by. And, he never filed any charges against them for "exposing" body parts or lewd behavior.
I find it amazing in a place where cameras are constantly rolling, not one inch of film footage caught his behavior. Where are all the feminist that backed a former president that actually had women filing rape charges against him, claimed oral sex was not sex, found a new use for oversized cigars, and groped numerous women?

OK, I did say "to my knowledge no one has come forward" at the time I wrote the post, and in fact today at this time, I still have not found a newspaper article identifying any woman that has said anything.
So, I'm going to ask for your help, please give me a link to a newspaper article so I may read it and have a better understanding of what that woman is saying.
Further, you indicated the following: >Not that I care either way, but women alleging misconduct have >in fact spoken with the newspapers. That, and the candidate's >own affirmative defense of his behavior, pretty much rules out >a smear campaign in my mind.
I can understand a woman never coming forward (for personal reasons or fears, etc.), I can understand a woman coming forward to law enforcement, I can understand a woman going to get counseling, but here is where I need some help in understanding:
Why would a woman go to a newspaper/s just days before the election, when she could have done that at any point, even before the person was a candidate? Please focus on her motive or reasoning.
What can the newspaper do to help her, only at the point of the election?
Your insight to these issues will help me understand something I'm obviously missing, and please believe me when I say I am willing to learn. Any help is sincerely appreciated.
Thank you, Rob

True, But one must question the motives of women who come forward and say "He grabbed my breasts at a party after the Oscars 11 years ago", or "He rubbed my buttocks on the set 6 years ago". Even two years ago, as one claimed. If it bothered these women, why didn't they say something when it happened? And why would they all come forward at the same time? Nope. Somebody rounded these folks up and got them to talk now for a reason. That reason is his political campaign. That makes it a smear tactic, much like the "revelation" that George Dubya got a DUI back in the 80's. The acts occurred, and they shouldn't be dismissed with the wave of a hand. But the timing was too coincidental.

Why not? We have every other kind of criminal in public office.

This is further information as to my previous post on the issues of Arnold.
I tracked down the original article which made the claims, it was published in the L.A. Times on 10-2-2003 and if it is still available, here is the link to it:
http://www.latimes.com/classified/jobs/news/la-me-women2oct02001424,0,4081730.story?coll=la-class-employ-jobnews
My previous point was, it was a smear campaign, and it was, but not by the women. The L.A. Times was doing a story about Arnold's history of "gruff actions towards women" (guess it could be called many other things, but this too is a public forum), and in the process of interviewing women in Arnold's past, these claims surfaced.
So, the fact that it surfaced just before the election, was a move by the newspaper, a smear campaign. A few days later another newspaper reported more claims by other women. see: http://www.bayarea.com/mld/mercurynews/news/politics/6937976.htm
Assuming that those newspapers have reported "facts" correctly and not colored them as they so often do, there is more than enough "facts" to say, where there is smoke there is a fire; there is a problem and many women have been mistreated. Said that way because I do not claim to be judge and jury.
OK, now I'll turn back to my previous post "Why would the women come forward just before the election?"
Lets eliminate "just before the election" because that clearly was done by the newspaper and not the women. Lets review "Why the women would not come forward before this point in time?"
In another post of mine "The Many Faces of Man" which also meant "The Many Faces of Women" (read the post to understand), I pointed out that "sometimes it is better to leave things unsaid; ...," clearly these women felt that way when these incidents occurred to them (for whatever reason it was their choice and I won't question it). These women wore the "face of a victim" at that point in their life.
All these facts bring me to a clearer understanding which is all I wanted. Thanks to Marta's post... Rob

Sorry , but being in "Newsprint" myself on occasion - I know from personal experiance - the facts are usually are all messed up. They are running a business to sell a paper. That is all. Sex, violence & "groping" sells.

I couldn't agree with you more on this one. It seems to me certen people need to change their "Survival" tactics. "If I can't have it - no one can" never worked for me.

"maybe we do" 29 for spousal abuse, 7 for fraud, 3 for assault, 14 for drugs, 8 for shoplifting. In 1998, 84 were stopped for DUI but let go after claiming "Congressional immunity". And you can add the President to the list of DUI offenders.
I can think of maybe 6 people in national politics I think would qualify as role models. One of them is my cousin, who is a US Representative now serving his 8th consecutive term. The rest are slime, sex offenders or not.
Which reminds me. Arnold isn't a sex offender. He's a movie star.

It is amazing to me that here are women making claims and everyone wants to defend the guy? Not one of them filed a suit against him but made the accusations. Gov> Davis hit it on the head when he said these are serious allegations that should be looked into because they are of criminal nature? So I guess from what im reading here movie stars have different standards or are you all hypocrites to defend someone because you want to believe its political? Double standards here I think cause god knows if 6 people said I groped them id be investigated and in jail by now.
