I'm doing a debate in my socoilogy class and I need some stats/opinions. Should sex offenders be rehabilitated and put back in society? Or should they walk free? Any info would be great! Thanks for your help.

Dear Nat,
I hope you don't mind if I call you that. And I really hope you get this message. I think I can help broaden your piont of views. Please it is very important that you do me this one favor. You will have my email adress when and if you get this message please respond to let me know I have finally been heard in my continuous reach to help the clueless in this ever going field of torture. I would rather stay anonymous, but I'll tell you about my back ground. I originate from a small town in the mountains of northern new york called Massena. I moved away recently for two years but like a stray dog I have found my way home. I am like a survivor unlike the many others. I am only 18 years old and I have survived 16 rapes. One of which was a gang rape where I was raped by 16 people at once. That was when I moved to the city. My sexual abuse started as early as my very first memory at 3 years old, my grandfather molested me forcing me to give him a blow job, only I was so young and my grandpa was so old I thought I was helping him urinate. I remember the only thought that flashed through my head was "Please Grampa don't pee in my mouth" he kept telling how much of a good girl I was and then went off to the bathroom tho finish what he made me start. From there I was raped by "friends" and boyfriends. Then my momma met my poppy. (my ex stepfather) Through out this exerpt I will refer to him as poppy, a whole different story.Anyways with poppy I suffer 7 years of molestation and blackmail. This man tore my family to nothing.I never really had a father growing up. Poppy was the closest thing I kew to a father. I told him I didn't want to do the things he made me do but most of the time I tried not to tell on him cuz then I would be fatherless again.(and to me that meant I did something wrong)My life on top of my sexual abuse was very traumatic and at the time I had an a mental disorder running untreated and undiagnosed. I ended up in a series of mental institutions and moved to the city, where I was raped several more times by strangers on the streets. Anyways I live.(There is soooo much more) Getting to the question at hand should a sex offender be rehabilitated and put abck in society or should they walk free? Most survivors would tell you lock them up and throw away the key, but I disagree. There is something mentally wrong with these people. Lately inthe the psychiatric field they've been trying to pin a name on it like a mental disorder.(Like pedophiles 'people who are attracted to young childeren' have their own name) Now for people who have the impulse to take control over another person through sexual violence they are trying to diagnose them. I believe through continuous counceling one can be gradually eased back into society. I have bi-polar with psychotic features panic disorder with possible angoraphobia and post traumatic stress disorder. Off medication and away from my trusted councelor I can go into the worst psychotic rages and sometimes evan get homicidal, I will never be fully recovered, but I am able to walk normally among others in society. We as survivors of sexual assaults have only fallen victim to anothers persons mental disease. These people will never be recovered but if they sincerely want to change they can be helped. They are as human as you and I!! Because they have committed such terrible crimes does not make them horrible people.(It is not the severity of your mistakes that judge how much of a bad person you are) It is your integrity and sincerity which I hate to say but can only be proven through trial and error. Lock a sex offender up and rehabilitate him or her in jail release him or her to an out patient program make sure they have an after care plan and are stable on their medications. Now if they truly want to change they will "keep up the good work"If they don't or mentally don't have the capacity to do so on their own... then another person gets hurt, but now we know. And I know to put it this way sounds crude but after going through so many time I have analized it to the bone. I am definately open to suggestions. But my answer is rehabilitation is not a lost cause. We are not dealing with monsters we are dealing with sick people who need help. Just like if you had a sore throat you would want someone to take away the pain. These people suffer from mental and physical pain as well and feel that the only way to get rid of it is to give it away to someone else whether they want it or not. Therefor as you would want someone to get you a doctor for your throat...maybe not in so many words but these people cry out for help and want someone to get them some bet because of there "uniqueness" people fear them more than help them. Well I have babbled enough. I have alot more to say on the subject so if you want more imput just email me. I hope I have helped.

Yes, Natalie,
Here's some insight--"Use your common sense""" The fact that your debating this narrow subject concerns me as an American. By the way who's paying for lifelong incarceration.......
Your class sounds pretty weak if your debating weather people should be re-integrated.

ChickenHawk,
Your brain sounds pretty weak if you're contesting the validity of this debate on the grounds of it being too narrow. This site exisits because of that debate moron. You are here because of that debate.
