What happens to information on persons that are accused of crimes that carry sex offender codes (e.g; rape, etc.), that are later found to be innocent? Allow me to put it into perspective. I'm specifically concerned with victims of mistakened identity accused of these crimes. What normally happens to the processing of derogatory information that is forwarded to the media and registry databases following exhonoration?....When?..... How does this process work?.....What is the timing?..... Does it require simply being charged, or a conviction to post to registries? Thanks for any assistance!

I myself am a victim of such a thing. The police raided my house, searching for weapons, drugs and child pornography. They even confiscated both of my computers, so they could search them for kiddie porn. It was reported in the paper, for all to read. Nobody at the newspaper bothered to point out that no weapons were found, no drugs were found and no child pornography was found. After 5 months the computers were returned to me, having been found devoid of any trace of pornography of any kind. The paper refuses to print a follow-up story because that isn't the type of news that sells papers. Of course, if they had found something, it would be page 1 news! The media, as well as the legal system, are looking for headlines. They could care less if a person is later found to be innocent
