Im not to sure of that. If you look at the amount of registred sex offenders and the amount of people that purchase pornography I think that you will find there lots of porno out there. If there were statistics to prove such im sure our goverment would have banned it long ago .

You have asked a question which I am assuming was phrased broadly so that you would draw more people into the discussion.

Only an absolute idiot would think pornography CAUSES rape. Rape is, by traditional definition, an act of force over another where sex is the vehicle. Getting your jollies over nude pictures or even hard core porn does not CAUSE this behavior. Rape is a choice that is made, if even made in a short time, it is still a choice.

Certainly various types of porn, and the ensuing fantasies they can be used to generate can work to desensitize a person to another's pain. But still a choice is made. Now if you are actually trying to ask if there is a link between the use of pornography and the commission of sexual offenses (a very different question) then it can be shown that there is a link between most offenders and their use of porn. But, and correct me if I am wrong, I think there just might be a link between drunk driving and the use of alcohol ;-)

There certainly is a benefit to keeping an offender from utilizing porn. But they can only be obtained if the choice is made to engage in activities that promote a healthy sense of control. Remember; sex offenses are acts of control, sex is merely the shameful vehicle used. This will shock you but some people, when they want to control another, will use a gun, a knife, their emotions and even......love (a perverted form of it for lack of a better word). It's about control!

I dont think pornography cause rape, heck people have been looking at pornography for years and years and they don't go out and rape people. If you rape someone its not because of porn.

That is like the stupidest, stick -up- the butt question I have ever heard! NO, I do not. Due to the nature of my husbands crimes, I had to get rid of my rather extensive collection--don' t really miss it that much. But I do miss RAPING men in the gas station restroom because I don't have it anymore.........((((GEEZE))))) Look out! Its OLD SPANKY for me!!!

I don't think porn causes rape either. There is no proven causal relationship between viewing porn and sexually abusing someone. On the other hand, if you are married and viewing porn, it is like cheating. The spouse will think that you don't like her anymore if you have to view porn to get sexually aroused.

Don't believe there is any correlation. Government even did a massive study on this years ago. You could do away with all adult material, and rapes would still occur. Maybe even go up?

It's not the sole cause - but definitely a strong contributor...

In the same way that alcohol doesn't cause alcoholism porn does not cause rape. It's takes a diseased mind to find the correlation to take it to those limits and initiate harm to others in so many areas for their own sick sense of well being and control.

Off the question a little---But Nav...what happens if its a mutual interest and neither partner feels like you say. It is just something you do to enhance your sex life, like you go out to diner at a romantic resturant to enhance your romantic life, or play softball to enhance your active live....TOGETHER..just a comment. :)

If you and your partner are viewing pornography mutually to enhance your sex life, then it's OK. I think most men don't view looking at pornography as cheating, but their wifes or girlfriends might look at it as cheating. Really it's a matter of perspective in my opinion.

I've had to give that lecture to a few men when I worked on their family computers. The wifes weren't very happy to find porn links. Most of the links were put there by a website without their full consent. You know those links that trick you to click here, and are actually porn. They then give you a pop up dialog box with the only option to click OK. When you click on OK, porn links are installed in your bookmark or favorite folder without your consent. Some of these dialog boxes will install dialers too that will disconnect you from the Internet without your knowledge, and dial into a porn site with a charge that ends up on your phone bill.

When you encounter one of these dialog boxes, push the sequence on a Windows based machine to bring up the task menu, and kill the process for that dialog box. Then you won't have it installing unwanted stuff on your computer.

Some of the men were actually viewing porn over the Internet, which the wifes weren't too happy about. So it was necessary to give them the viewing porn is cheating lecture. I gave them the safe surfing habits lecture while I was at it.

The sequence on a windows based machine to bring up the task menu is ctrl alt del. I put it in my original post, but it got removed by the discussion board software because I had a > and < around them. Those symbols are typically used to indicate html commands.

No No and No!!!...a part of my conditions is I don't view pornography...Big deal...Pornography was never my bag anyway...Heck my ex used to bring home flicks and mags at times and I could of cared less about viewing either....Porn will not make me offend...I see ads on tv and mags about alcohol... I see it in the store and I see all those neon signs, but they don't make me want to drink!!! Just becauseI see an ad on tv for steak doesn't mean I am going to go into some farmers field and slaughter his prized bull...

it's interesting....many of the more notorious serial killer/rapists in history had some fixation or some unhealthy level of involvement with porn. I definitetly feel that it heightens the intensity of certain feelings the person may already have. I also think that, depending on the motivation of the rape, porn may cause feelings to materialize that were normally latent or supressed.

Example: man with serious female or male issues based on trauma sustained in relationships as a youth. (maybe mother/father seriously abused him physically, sexually and/or mentally.....or he has been neglected, abandoned, belittled, controlled, etc. by specifically women (or men depending on the sex of the victims)). He now has a rage/mistrust oriented fixation on those particular groups of individuals. He watches porn...which sexually objectifies both men and women and is raw and animal like for the most part. This could certainly heighten the rage by watching that type of individual being objectified, controlled, placed in a vulnerable position etc. in a porn flick So....I think so.

I think when I was answering, I didn't keep the original question in mind. I don't think porn CAUSES rape....I think it contributes to the fantasy and rage that accompany the thought processes associated with rape. Sorry about that ;-)
