Sex Offender Next door to me

Gender: Female, Age Bracket: 30 - 39, State: Oregon, Country: United States

I just found out that we have a SO living next door to us. He is not required to register, I did a background check on him and found out he was originally charged with 10 counts of Sodomy 1 and plead to 1 count of Sex Abuse. He spend 2 years in Prison and when he got out moved in with his parents next door.

I contacted his Parole Officer yesterday and was told that he is actually looking for a different place to live since he can't have contact with minors and we live right across the street from an elementary school.

I have had only a few days to take all this in and I have been researching all the terminology like crazy. Of course my first instinct is to protect my 2 children who are under 8 years of age. On the other hand I'm trying to keep an open mind of the situation. It's really frightening when you hear stories in the news like the little girl in Florida who was taken out of her bedroom.

I have read the posts on this thread and I can understand and relate to the different reactions one may have. At first I wanted to march right next door and let him and his parents know that if they make one wrong move there will be hell to pay...but on the other hand, I look at this kid who is trying to get on with his life, he has kept to himself and probly gone out of his way to not be out when my children are.

So bottom line is, I'm glad I found out so I can just be that much more aware of my surrounding with my children. But on the other hand I wish I would of been informed when he first moved in (5months ago). All the what if's keep going thru my mind!

See an abbreviation or acronym, but don't know what it stands for? Consult the Glossary.
