Aretha Sconiers maintains that she didn’t mean to kick her 31/2 year-old daughter to death in 2000.

Nonetheless, a crying Sconiers entered a qualified guilty plea Tuesday to the intentional murder of Zy-Nyia Nobles, perhaps ending years of drama in a case that stunned the community and raised questions about children’s welfare statewide.

“Your honor, I can’t convey to you in enough words how those were not my intentions that day,” she told Pierce County Superior Court Judge Lisa Worswick. “However, I stand here to take full responsibility for my actions because they did cause her death.”
