Registry of convicted drug trafficers proposed

CARLSBAD — The Eddy County Sheriff’s Department has proposed a registry system for convicted drug traffickers that resembles the system in place for convicted sex offenders.
Though the idea is in its beginning phase, Mayor Bob Forrest said he supports the convicted drug trafficker registry and he hopes to put it into effect in Carlsbad.
“I have been speaking with local legislators about this,” Forrest said. “Even if the state won’t try it, I would like to try it locally.”
Sheriff’s Department Captain Eddie Carrasco said the program would involve mandatory registration by convicted drug traffickers, in which they would register multiple times each year at the sheriff’s department. When they register, they would produce their address and work information.

Works for me. But they need to make sure they register everybody, not just traffickers. Possession as well. And make it retroactive to 1947. And of course be sure and put everybody on the Net. I have a need to know who in California is a druggie, as I have family living there and I might want to visit sometime.

Woooo Hoooo
Lets just make allies of ALL the criminals now, hehehe.
What do we have, 12 million felons plus another 2 million or so locked up?
Yeah.......... Lets make Americans feel more free and safe by forcing all felons to register, with ther information public. HAHAHAHA
Wow....
But wait.... when all the felons are registered, we ought to make the families of felons register, because that sort of thing runs in the family.
I cant wait until a group of sex offenders starts protesting an employer who hires a spouse beater and gets him or her fired!! HAHAHA.
Man..... going the wrong way people.

After some thought, I like this precedent.
I think it would be good for all of us to know who our neighbors are.
With a few simple clicks of a mouse we should have our neighbors entire criminal history. It should be a law, if you are arrested, convicted or acquitted, or any combination, this should be made public. Including marriages and divorces and ALL arrests.
Seems like that is the way it is going. Soon anyone with skeletons in their closets will be joining the SOs by having their most humiliating behaviors public information, not just public, but easily accessed online, including address, and employer.
My cousin's new BF's ex wife was charged recently with beating her kids. She has court Friday in Kenosha County. They will be playing the videotaped statements from the kids as well.
I asked my cousin, does her work know about her arrest? Nope....
Is there any reason why they do not? She is a real estate agent and she could be alone in homes with kids and other adults, and if she would beat someone in her own family, who knows where she will draw the line?
Well her employer knows now!! And her employer has been placed on notice that if she is convicted and not fired, the media and the competing real estate companies are going to know that they have a convicted child abuser showing homes(she'll probably lose her license anyway tho)
I asked if her neighbors know? Nope... if she is convicted, flyers will be distributed notifying her neighbors that she has a tendency to beat her own family members and could pose a serious danger to the community and is worthy of watching closely.
I am kind of giddy with this news, I cant wait to snoop on my fellow man now. I guess I know now why the registries are so popular!! The same reason people read the Enquirer, Star, watch the evening news and have scanners. Nosy SOBs arent we?!?!

Uh, Oh. I have three cousins who have been locked up for crimes.
At least Britain's proposed NIR (National Identity Register) does not discriminate against felons or SO's. Anyone want to ask your representitive to start a national registry with national DNA bank? After all, we don't want to discriminate against any group, do we? More cold crimes will be solved that way, and those pesky terrorists won't be able to sneak in across the border anymore. It's for the greater public good , you know?

I like this legislation and hope that the registry is made public just like the sex offender registries. And everyone thought the registries were just for sex offenders and would never be applied to them too because they "aren't" dangerous. However, the rulings out of the courts apply to anyone ever convicted of a crime since the registries are not really punishment.
Personally, I think every registered sex offender should be a good little neighbor and put the whole neighborhood at the same level by doing background checks on their neighbors and distributing flyers around the neighborhood. Everyone deserves to know what their neighbor was convicted of no matter how minor the crime even if it did not result in a conviction. Some will be pissed off to have their information so publicly distributed. But hey, if they had not committed the crime they wouldn't have anything to worry about. It is just a continuing consequence of their crime.
I advocate the Federal government offer free background checks via the Internet or snail mail upon request of any of it's citizens. Afterall, this is public information and should be up to each person to determine how dangerous their neighbors might be to them. The government shouldn't be hiding this information since it is all about public safety.

You mean create a new Czar?
Background Check Czar
Public Information Czar
Omar the Snoop Czar?
LOL
Free background checks..... I LIKE that idea.
THAT one should get submitted to our representatives in Washington. Why should we have to pay for these things. The color of being safe is green? Only people who dump 39.99 deserve to have their family safe?
Great idea.

maybe we could add a biannual poly to be sure that no one committed a crime and got away with it.

Update.........
The woman grabbed one of her three kids from daycare and will not let him return. She still has to show up in court on Fri, at which time some real action will take place.
The two girls she is accused of beating are with Dad, safe, but she has the boy, and wil not give him up. Officer Nepotism will not do a thing about it, but then, he cant, yet.
