Steve, I can understand asking you to make a change if the error dramatically changed the intent of the message. That is not the case with me as far as brain farts and incorrect spelling. You're doing a great job with the site. Thanks. On a related topic, how do you feel about pulling an entire post when the author requests it? For those, "Man, I really shouldn't have said that" situations? And when in the future you do enable editing after a post has gone up, will this removal option be available? On a related topic, how do you feel about pulling an entire post when the author requests it? For those, "Man, I really shouldn't have said that" situations? I don't have a problem with it if it's warranted. But that doesn't mean I'm available to fix any old typo (per dp1's earlier question) or bail out every user whenever they put their foot in their mouth. And when in the future you do enable editing after a post has gone up, will this removal option be available? Probably. But it'll probably be in the form of a request to remove the post with a comment explaining why. I want to avoid users removing their posts simply because they said something stupid or no longer want their posts visible, especially after long periods of time and after there have been replies to the post(s) in question. I don't want to wake up one morning and find that a user deleted all of her posts from a 2 month period, rendering 50 replies meaningless and out of context. I hope that makes sense. Does that sounds reasonable? Appropriate? Forum Home | Top of Thread | Jump To Parent (123329) In order to post a message to a new thread or reply to existing messages you must be logged in. I want to avoid users removing their posts simply because they said something stupid ... True. I'm as guilty as the next person of putting my foot in my mouth. And I keep forgetting that the board is moderated. Odds are that if a post was really out of line you would reject it anyway. So I guess the question is moot. I agree on the typo thing. We all make mistakes, and nobody should make a big deal out of it. I like this new quote routine. Also the handy "bold" type showing what message is being read at the moment. Good job. Just so everyone knows, I am far from done with functionality on the forums and improving usability. In addition to the ability for users to edit their posts after they are visible, I will be implementing post-moderation (vs. pre-moderation) for users who play by the rules. So far I've only had to reject and had difficulty knowing where I was in the thread so I added it. If you or anyone else have ideas for features to add or things to change let me know. Also the handy "bold" type showing what message is being read at the moment. Good job. Thanks for noticing. Incidentally, I was inspired to add the bolding to improve usability after reading the very long Orolan's Story thread. So you have yourself to thank! Funny. I found myself getting lost this last time when DP1 asked for an update, thinking "I wish there was an easier way to know where I am". What happened to all the line graphs like in the last forum? Was that too busy for you? In long threads it seemed easier at times to follow the lines to see what or who was responding to who.
