There isn't a way right now due to how it's programmed. It's something I'm considering, though. A higher priority item which should be implemented in the next couple of weeks is a flag on each forum's page to show threads that have at least one message you've read and the ability to tag threads as threads you want to monitor so you can click to a screen showing only those threads you are monitoring.
In case you didn't know, you can view a thread in flat mode, which then marks all messages in that thread as read.
