Steve, you must have some time-out feature for idle-time? I ask because several times I've been in a middle of a reply, had to take a call or whatever, comeback , finish the reply and click submit. I get 'expired page' and I notice that I'm no longer logged in. This can be a pain if you have entered a good deal of text. If you require a time-out feature can you at least make the wait time to log off configurable so that those that need extra time can set it as such?
Thanks
H. Pierce (proud pedosexual)

A login session currently ends after 2 hours or closing the browser. I've been testing other options to allow more flexibility and will implement something soon. It'll probably be a per user choice of keeping it as is or an automatically logged in mode.

Steve,
So the session ends after two hours? Period? Or after two hours without changing pages?
One of the things happening is this. Sometimes I have to open a new browser window so I can access the site and look at a previous post or another thread for reference. I just "read", so I don't try to log in again. When I'm through, I just close the new window down. Almost without fail I have done this new window routine in the sessions in which I get logged out. Any possible correlation?

Right now your session starts the moment you login. 2 hours later the session expires. It also expires (or should) if you close your browser window before the 2 hours are up, then try to access the site again. This is not how I want it to behave, but I need to work on some other things before I change it and for most people it's probably not an issue. What I intend to do is give users the ability to set their session timeout length from b/w 1 hour and 24 hours and to give users the option of staying logged in indefinitely via a cookie (please don't make me explain how cookies are not harmful...), which will mean even if you close your browser or turn your computer off, then visit the site later you'll be logged in. I don't want to make that mandatory so it'll be an option.

Since I fully understand how cookies work, and know that they are harmless if used properly, I like that idea best. I post on a couple other boards that use cookies so I don't have to log in every time. Fortunately the cookies are recognizable, so I can leave them whenever I do a little "housecleaning".
What I've started doing now is to go ahead and write my post, then just "copy" it before submitting. If I end up having to log back in, I can do so and then "paste" and submit.
Haven't done so in a while, so I want to take this moment to once again thank you for your time and efforts in running this site and message board.
