Dear dp1, I hear you and acknowledge I still am searching. Certainly what I describe of WW11 era are my personal experiences and observations. And my memories are about my experiences in a limited area of SW PA. In no way am I going to rebut your versions, but add them to my collection of views. Certainly I have read historical stories that confirm what you tell me. Until now I have accepted those stories as rare. So I will keep reading and listening and edit my personal views accordingly. But dp1, suppose we overlook historical differences and ask a general question. Do you think the society and its overview of life influences us in individual ways? I tend to believe so. In sociology classes I recall studying both the Greek and Roman Empires. I remember the teachings that for both empires the people generally fell morally prior to total breakdown of the respective empires. I also was taught that social mores have stronger control on the people than statute laws. Now, to be sure, those studies are dated sadly ...just as I am dated. Good talking with you, dp1, and hearing your views. I honestly do respect them.
