No telling. Could have turned up in one of the child-porn stings. Could have been suspected of something in Costa Rica that lead to further background checking.
What I didn't see is that he was a registered sex offender at the time. Of course we didn't have a registry back then. Too bad, because it might have prevented this. Not.
