"Of course that's not an ideal situation," said Jim Mills, the Community Supervision and Corrections Department's interim director. "I don't know what went into the planning,"

Can you say "NOTHING"? No planning.

What IDIOT would decide to use a KNOWN sex-offender halfway house and felony probation office for a SHELTER?
Would have made sense to make it a shelter for probationers and parolees who evacuated. They'd fit right in. Instead, some idiot sticks families in there and now, as usual, the sex offenders get kicked out of their home.
You know what? Screw the Katrina evacuees. They can fend for themselves, since FEMA is throwing all kinds of money at them that the sex offenders don't have.
Those probationers, he said, have been placed under lockdown until further notice.

Oh. You mean they've been incarcerated without having committed ANY crime or otherwise violating their probation? I hope somebody sues the crap out of the state. There's no disaster in Dallas.

We haven't had any reports of problems or incidents at either facility

So if there hasn't been a problem then why even bring it up at all? Oh I know why, because it will get your bosses more publicity ratings to let the community know that you are "concerned" about the safety of the evacuee's.. I have a suggestion, if the evacuee's have an issue with taking temporary shelter in a building frequented by law abiding, non-reoffending RSO's the they can get the heck out and go back to the swamp they call home (New Orleans).Let them take their chances with disease and gaors and snakes since those are obviously less risky than residing in a building (that is being monitored 24/7 by LEA) with know sex offenders
