other Oregon counties list sex offenders on www.sexcriminals.com
A plug for Steve. Good going:-))
"Just because we post a sex offender's name on a Web site, does not mean people will be checking that Web site," Burright said. "It's not an efficient way to get the word out."
I'm more and more amazed at the number of politicians who are actually exhibiting a little common sense these days. Makes me think there is hope for US democracy after all.

Thanks. I wasn't even aware of the article until Friday. It was interesting that it suggests that some counties in Oregon are cooperating with my site, while others are not. In reality, there's no issue of cooperation - if a locality has an online sex offender registry, SexCriminals.com lists it, if it doesn't, there's nothing to list.
"[Linn County, Oregon Sheriff Dave] Burright also noted that some of the information posted on the sex criminals site appears to be out of date. He said that was a big factor in his decision."
I'm not sure what out of date information he's talking about (though I'd love to know so it can be corrected), but just after the article was published, I was contacted by a cadet in the Oregon State Police office that manages the Sex Offender Registry and asked to update a phone number of theirs listed on SexCriminals.com's Oregon Sex Offender Registry page (see # under "Telephone Access"). After I called both numbers (the old # did work, just got an operator instead of automated), I updated our page. Ironically, the number we had listed came directly from their own FAQ's About Sex Offenders page and even though I told the cadet it would be a good idea for them to update their own website, they haven't yet. Go figure!

Funny how they know wwo's infor on a website isn't updated but they cant keep their own straight. Im glad SC was recognized and that more people view this site as a source of information. I have always said this site is the most educational site on the web! Seems Im not the only one to think so !

This is an excellent article to a lot of my views and posts !Best part is the failure by the states to fund the locals. We are only begging to see the collapse of the registry in many counties. Whats going to be even better is when they want rso to foot the bill when they cant even get a job to take care of their basic needs!

In most states that charge a fee, failure to pay is the same as failure to register. So if they're going to send you to prison for 15 years for not having $40 on you when you renew, and they're going to give you that same 15 years for not renewing, what's the point in going down there? Might as well skip it and make them come find you, right?

Actually, the courts have ruled that you can't be incarcerated for failure to pay a registration fee as it's considered a civil debt. As such, you can't be jailed for not paying it. Same as not paying a parking ticket. They can fine you all they want, but they can't jail you for not paying it. So all sex offenders have to do in states that require you to pay a fee to register is refuse to pay the fee. Sure they try and jail some of them. But the courts will throw out these cases due to case law. When this source of funding suddenly drys up, they will have to come up with another way to fund their precious registries.
