We ARE talking about the state that just raised its AOC from 14 to 16 less than two years ago, right? The same state whose voters refused to amend their Constitution two months ago to strike the portion that mandates racial segregation?

Actually the AOC in Alabama has been 16 since at least 1990 though my SOA class repeatedly beat it into my head it was age 18 not 16. At any rate that article was wrong. It is actually a class C felony for failure to register, not a class A misdemeanor. Then again most people in Alabama including the establishment are ignorant of their own state laws. How sad...

I stand corrected. It was the age at which teens could marry that was recently raised from 14 to 16.

Now, I agree that many who work for the state are ignorant of the laws they are supposed to uphold. Here in Indiana, many PO's are unaware of the latest requirements to register.

Alabama is indeed an oddball state. They let you marry at 14 but I suppose you couldn't consummate the marriage for 4 more years or you could get second degree rape.
