Rhode Island is the latest state to begin community notification. Here's a related editorial.

"Repeat offenders of any violent crime, we submit, shouldn't be cloaked in privacy. Rehabilitation is a noble goal, and everyone has a right to try and rebuild their lives. That should not, however, take precedence over the rights of the innocent to live safely in their own homes and neighborhoods."

Agreed they need to expose ALL felons to public notification. Likewise they really need to take a look at the paranoia thats developed in many of these communities as a result of the publics "living safer" with this knowledge (look at California for an example of paranoia).

Actually, anyone who commits a crime no matter how minor should be subject to public notification for life. Some people convicted of DUI's are not always convicted of a felony. I should have the tools so that I can protect myself from every idiot out there. I don't care what type of crime they committed. Don't I have the right to know what my neighbors were convicted of so that I can take any necessary precautions?

Why just sex offenders? drung drivers, killers, thieves, con artists and more are just as dangerous but yet we do not have a registry for them. I am more worried about the crack dealer, and the crime that comes with that, than a sex offender. I am more likely to get hit by a drunk driver @2 am than getting raped

No shit Sherlock. If you were born without a penis you'd be more concerned about being raped. Which head were you thinking of when you posted? (LOL)
