Would this film be up for an award if the genders were reversed? Absolutely not! several people would be added to the registry. Nicole Kidman, the director, producer, and everyone involved should be on the registries and banned from contact with minors. And don't give me the its a movie crap. If someone can get convicted for making a cgi child then this should be a slam dunk.

"Many disgusted viewers walked out of the theater at the Venice Film Festival Tuesday night after a shocking nude scene featuring Kidman and the boy sharing an erotic bath."

EROTIC BATH????????

Good grief. I agree this is beyond bad taste.

The story of the film actually sounds rather beautiful. But they could have made the movie just as good without any actual "erotic" scenes between her and the little boy. If she was ment to play a Child molester they could have "told the story" without having to "Show all the actions". Hundred and thousands of movies do.

You know it's crazy what these actresses will do for an award these days. First Halle Berry does a soft core porn call "Monsters ball" (It was an excellent sex scene, but is that what they really should be giving awards for? She's done much better movies) and now Nicole kidman is fondling children. I don't have a problem with pornography (involving adults) at all, but lets just call a spade a spade.

I read the producer defended the scene adding "the boy and Kidman weren't nude". He said the shot was done over the back of the tub (looking at Kidmans back) so I assume she has the boy in her arms and is kissing him or something (at that angle). Clearly even if theyre in swimsuits this is way to close for comfort.

Many years ago there was a movie called "For a Lost Soldier". I will admit in the days before I had therapy I went and watched this movie at the "alternative" theatre in Minneapolis about ten times. In the movie a boy of about 13 "falls in love" with a man. In several scenes sex is simulated (one graphically) and many kissing scenes in states of undress are present. This was a European film (theyre more liberal) but still I find it unsettling.

Same emotions here.

Oh jeez i could imagine. It's making me uncomfortable just thinking of it. lol. Still a good producer would have know that this would revolt a lot of people. I mean they get paid insane amounts of money to guess what people want to see and create something that will move and entertain the audience. Something could look great on paper and not translate well at all acted out, such as a "love" scene with such a young child.

Still the producers probably don't care one bit about none of hat. He just wanted to get some shiny award from someone and dispite how much he's revolted his audience it would seem the movies already being nominated for some.

I havent seen the film, dont know I even will anytime soon. The filmaker is going to say the scenes were needed to tell the "story" in the most believable manner. But on the side of taste when it comes to such a subject, and the wide amount of viewers who will see the movie, any such scenes need not be included for the story to be told in a manner in which the viewer will relate to or understand. I dont think Hollywood really should go there in any form simply because it is a VERY slippery slope. Where one mainstream movie breaks ground, more will follow. Teen programming has already dived well into the realm of where some could say it has pornographic implications as many of the most popular shows in teen prime time features storylines with high school teens obsessed with sex , parties and popularity. Some of the intimate scenes of Dawsons creek would have been appauling and banned from TV only 25 years ago. MTV and other teen entertainment is very sexually motivated. Allowing Hollywood to have an inch will result in a mile. IMPO, however, as long as it is done in a manner that does not "cross the line", and has real artistic merit that adds to the movie, I am OK with it.

albeit the producers, kidman , director and others did cross the line....what about the parents of the this child? where were they?...think about how many little boys probably read for the script.

If that were my 10 YO I would have never ever allowed them to be in such scenes with anyone...Once again I guess people will do anything for money, up to and including sacrificing your child.
