So what about the very large number(some of those registered are not actually at that adress),is there a national estimate?who slip the register and abscond, some desperate, vagrant and itinerant, the chances of reoffending much increased.Where do they go to?.Presumably many go to New York("all roads lead to New York"),the climactiric city of the World, now the big apple for sex offenderswhere Laura Ahearn and "parents for Megan's law"are based, and to next door New Jersey where poor Mrs Kanka lives, and to the sunshine state of California where Mark Klaas ,and the Klaas foundation is.They must all be much more surrounded by anonymous sexual offenders than ever they were before there was "Megan's" law
Similarily ,how many of them will have crossed the Atlantic, and turned up here?

Different state laws as to what constitutes a "sexual" offence ,and differentage of consent laws means that people are posted on website in some states for what is legal in the next state just down the road.
("Paedophiles" are said to be incurable, but in fact different state, and national consent ages means they must be "cured" all the time,by crossing boundaries.)
For example, please access the Louisiana site, and search it (as it can be searched)with any common Woman's first name, you will see there's legions of poor Women(presumably many prostitutes) posted ther for "CRIME AGAINST NATURE!!!" ie,that is,oral sex between consenting adults(not on a level with Child rape and murder, but it's no good telling the campaigners for "Megan's" law that). What happens re registration if they move to New York ,where this is not illegal?

But community activist Rebecca Bialecki thinks something else is behind the cluster of sex offenders in Orange and neighboring Athol.
``Unfortunately, I think a lot of that has to do with how isolated we are. That's what helps them not get caught,'' she said. ``When you are living in an isolated, rural community like Orange it's easier to go unnoticed.''

Oh no, sex offenders are clustering in HER neighborhood. Miss Bialecki needs to stop her whining, and take an anger management class if she is so disturbed about this. Sex offenders are not clustering. She is just more aware of those in her neighborhood because of the registration laws. Sex offenders along with other convicted criminals have always lived among us for thousand and thousands of years. The only thing different is that the registries have mad them more visible.

As the various post-conviction laws get tougher and tougher with the rationalization that this really isn't punishment, we are going to see huge dynamics in where convicted offenders live. It's all about NIMBY, shaming, and the delusion that they are trying to protect the children. While a person's criminal record may be public record, the act of requiring them to register where they live for the purposes of posting it on the web and community notification is illegal. The US Supreme court hasn't been asked the question whether the act of registering is constitutional.
