Awesome article about Mrs. Kanka 10 years after her daughter was raped and killed.
Mrs. Kanka believes the law could be stronger if it were uniformly enforced nationwide. Currently, the law is enforced differently in each state, with some laws tougher than others. Mrs. Kanka said she was horrified to learn that pedophiles often research which states have the weaker laws, and then advertise those areas as good places to move to.
"Pedophiles and rapists don't like me much," she said.
She wants New Jersey's Megan's Law re-examined to toughen its risk assessment requirements, guidelines which determine if a sex offender's name is made public. Mrs. Kanka also is pushing for an advisory board that would oversee the state's Internet registry site.
Awesome. Maybe with her efforts more sex offender listings will become visable on the internet. I'm glad see sees how some of the laws need to be toughened up.

Maybe because of her efforts we will see free criminal background checks too by contacting government agencies. The infrastructure is already there in most states now to provide this information for free because of the sex offender registries. Ms. Kanka needs to stress the importance of doing a criminal background check on all of your neighbors so that you can better protect yourself with that information. Sex offenders are not the only people we need to worry about.

a convicted sex offender in a house across the street
the Kankas' neighbor across the street, Jesse Timmendequas
one of her very good friends who lived across the street
I guess there was a little girl who lived IN the same house Timmendequas did? Wonder whose kid she was, and why he didn't molest her.
The Kankas were horrified to learn that Timmendequas had served six years in prison for aggravated assault and attempted sexual assault of another child.
Evidence gathered by Dr. Robert Freeman-Longo points strongly towards the Kankas being well aware of this fact and even warning their children to stay away from Timmendequas well before that fateful day.
Mrs. Kanka believes the law could be stronger if it were uniformly enforced nationwide.
Considering that EVERY state has something quite a bit "stronger" than what the Federal law mandated, a "uniform" application of that which Mrs. Kanka fought so hard to get would result in a weakening, not a strengthening. However, uniform application would certainly be much fairer and more manageable than the current rats-nest of rules, laws and regulations.
"Pedophiles and rapists don't like me much," she said.
In case you didn't know it Mrs Kanka, sex offenders don't like you much either;-)
Mrs. Kanka also is pushing for an advisory board that would oversee the state's Internet registry site.
Why? New Jersey has one of the best and most informative registries in the country. I would think she'd be thrilled with it.
when Timmendequas' home
A common misconception. It wasn't Timmendequas' house. He just stayed there. It belonged to another sex offender, an adult rapist. Dr. Freeman-Longo says the Kankas knew his criminal history as well.

Agreed free criminal background checks for EVERYONE would be great. You can bet alot of these people cheering for the SO registry would change thier tune once thier own indiscretions are posted online.

GASP!!!! So you mean they know about JT's record of child molestation? Yet they let thier girl out for hours to be murdered not knowing where she was?
What about all this "knowledge" stuff they were empowered with (because they knew already)?? Why didn't they use it to protect her?

What poor Mrs Kanka doesn't realise is that what requires registration and posting in some states is legal down the road in the next state. The differing age of consent laws ,and offences in some states such as "SODOMY!!!"(the very use of this term shows that America lives in the old testament, not the 21st century,or the rest of western society) and "CRIME AGAINST NATURE!!!" ensure this.
Some states have a "Romeo and Juliet" law, others don't.The chances of sexually experimenting teenagers being prosecuted also vary greatly from one state to another, and depending on social and racial prejudices,a Black "Romeo" with a White "Juliet" is much more likely to be prosecuted than a White one.
Indecent exposure requires posting in some states but not in others. This is a very variable offence ,it can be a very sick one,or just a piece of drunken and/or juvenile horseplay. In Michigan an 18 year old boy is posted, the address where he lives with his Child sisters so published for Mooning the School principal.A hobo ,living in a derleict car, was posted for because he changed his clothes there.
The issue of "Romeo and Juliet's" posted ,their young lives ruined and endangered, some times for no more than a consensual touching game at a party, has been raised with Mrs Kanka, again and again ,but she just ignores it.She similarily ignores exposure cases of the type I,ve described. And she has not responded when informed of those (just type any common Womans's first name into the Louisiana site to see those posted for "CRIME AGAINST NATURE!!!") pilloried on the websites for oral sex between consenting adults, and for consensual Gay relations(the two who got the Texas "SODOMY!!!"law struck down are still posted on the Texas site).
Poor Mrs Kanka's rationale for "Megan's" law is "You have to be able to tell them "this man will hurt you" we warn them of hot things" .But what possible application does that have to the sort of cases I've described? It is never "Megan's" law.
Possibly Mrs Kanka's religious beliefs which she mentions makes her want to stick a latterday "Scarlet letter" on experimenting teenagers,Gay's,and prostitutes, who are held responsible for a Child murder.
This is the precise anatomy of the witchunt, during the witchunts a small number of poisoners were lumped together with many herbalists, mediums, fortune tellers ,ect, ect,to make on persecution category as "witches" now many different are lumped together as "sexual offenders"(different in each state),and politicians profit now as then.
The witches killed her daughter,so she want's to burn all witches, she has successfully created a witchunt.

Can you understand now why I have such a poor opinion of Maureen Kanka and her "vendetta"?
