Steve, you find the weirdest articles sometimes:-)
I'll take that as a compliment. ;-) When I read it on Wired I figured I had to post it.
It might be safe for some, but I'm afraid the types of folks that would be attracted to something like that may have some issues with boundaries and fantasiy vs. reality issues.
That might be. It's like the old kids playing violent video games as kids debate.
It'll be interesting to watch the numbers of rape reports to see if there is an incline and whether those rapists engaged in any cyber pre-rape behavior.
That's definitely something convicted rapists should be asked. I just hope it doesn't become a cop out - "It's not my fault I raped her. I played out violent fantasies which included rape in an online multi-player role-playing game online for a few years. It's the software company's fault, not mine!"
Rapists are a different breed, this can't possibly be a healthy sexual outlet for them.
If it contributes to escalating behavior it could be problematic. Somehow I don't see rapists and potential rapists with control and impulse issues using this as a safe outlet *instead* of perpetrating crimes against actual people.
