Residents will soon be able to get more information off the Internet about high-risk sex offenders living in San Francisco.

The Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Tuesday asking the San Francisco Police Department to add a link to its Web site that contains pictures of the offenders and their general locations in the city.

Since it doesn't look like California will be putting a state-wide sex offender registry online anytime soon, I'm glad individual counties and cities are busy making the information available online or working on plans to do so. Between San Jose which went online recently and San Francisco which just made this announcement those are cities with 1.7 million residents combined. That's more than 13 states!

Amazing they will do this, even though they are violating state law by doing so. Why isn't the state AG bringing charges?

The way the police departments and a couple of politicians rationalize this is by stating that they are "doing an end run around the State law."

Sounds harmless, doesn't it?

"Your honor, I didn't break the law. I circumvented it."
"Very well. Case dismissed."
