What makes people tick? He was convicted of failing to register, wasn't sentenced to jail and sexually assaulted a 13 year old later that night.

Steve, you're wondering about the wrong thing. He's a known criminal with a prior sex offense. On 6/28/02 he was sentenced in Broward County, FL for L&L to 2 years house arrest followed by 8 years probation. He absconded probation and a warrant was issued on 8/12/03. If he was recently picked up on a new charge and sentenced to probation I am wondering which part of probation don't they understand he can't do since he is a fugitive from Florida. Why would anyone in their right mind give him more probation for absconding from Florida and failing to register? Why didn't they just ship his sorry butt back to Florida in handcuffs?

This is a very similar situation and I'll tell you in a moment why they didn't bother to ship this woman's sorry butt back to GA. I had a woman come to me for an apt. She was later termed a "crackhead" who was a fugitive from GA. When we contacted the authorities in GA they told us it would be far too costly for them to come pick her up. She was arrested in Easton PA for prostitiution, petty theft, being under the influence in public....arrested not once, not twice but many times. Supposedly she had parole violations, outstanding fines and several other little goodies I can't remember. But it all boiled down to...it's not cost effective to force the criminal to be responsible.

Another possibility is that Florida didn't want him back, thinking he would certainly get a prison sentence on the new charge.

I have never had an unsuccessful extradition in the 15 years working with sex cases. They love shipping their butts back home. I can understand drugs or property crimes. But they love sex and murder extraditions. If Florida didn't want him that would be the first I heard of. What do you want to bet that they never checked for out of state warrants?
