Maine's state sex offender registry is set to go online in a few days. "The person's actual street address and more specifics about the crime and sentence are available by sending a written request to the State Bureau of Identification." It's interesting that Maine chose not to list the offenders' residential addresses. There's also a poll on the same page as the article - "...this is the first time the public has had direct access to the list. Will this help increase the public's safety?" It may be because showing the "picture" is enough to keep kids away from him (since its safety oriented). What good does an address do?
