Maine's sex offender registry

Maine's state sex offender registry is set to go online in a few days.

"The person's actual street address and more specifics about the crime and sentence are available by sending a written request to the State Bureau of Identification."

It's interesting that Maine chose not to list the offenders' residential addresses. There's also a poll on the same page as the article - "...this is the first time the public has had direct access to the list. Will this help increase the public's safety?" So far it's 78% yes, 22% no.

It may be because showing the "picture" is enough to keep kids away from him (since its safety oriented). What good does an address do?
