I completely understand In the eyes of a victim, the age of the offender is not important. Being abused still has all the detrimental effects whether the offender is 14 or 40. I believe though, in many cases, that an adult sex offender is more dangerous than a juvenile sex offender because of the maturity factor, and the ability to realize the consequences of offending to both the victim and the offender. I do not know if there are any studies or statistics on the subject.

I personally began offending when I was 12, but when I was 15, as my offending pattern was becoming more serious, I began to feel very guilty about my actions and realize the seriousness. I confessed to a counselor and to police completely voluntarily to what I had done. I truly wanted help for my actions. There were a total of 3 familiar victims in 3 years. The ages were 2, 1, and 4. I was convicted of the latter, and due to the seriousness of the crime, was incarcerated in a juvenile facility for 3 years, required to register as a level 3 sex offender for life, and to attend treatment.

I completed my sentence and my treatment successfully. I am currently registered. I have since graduated college, have a great job in the advertising industry, have a girlfriend, and have changed my life for the better. I am now 26 years old.

Maybe I was just justifying my actions at the time, but I just did not grasp the true seriousness of what I was doing when I started doing it. I state this more as a reason than an excuse of course, but I believe my offending was largely the result of how I chose to deal with a warped sexual upbringing (I am a victim myself), depression, and anger. When I began offending at 12, I knew it was wrong of course, but I had no idea just how serious of a problem it was until I became a little older, and more mature. I now realize how heinous my actions were and am truly sorry for what I did to those children. Some sex offender therapists might call this denial or complacency, but I honestly believe I will not offend ever again. I feel I learned my lesson, and am mature enough to know better.

I would like to someday get married and have a family of my own. I feel like my status as a registered sex offender might influence the state to prevent that from happening. Perhaps they would try to take my child from me. I also feel like being registered as a sex offender will open my family and I to scrutiny that could be detrimental to the upbringing of my children, my career, and my ability to form healthy interpersonal relationships as an adult.

The opinion of the courts is that registration is not a punishment. Let me tell you from an offender's standpoint : I'd take 5 years in prison over the humiliation of registering for life any day. I personally believe that the actions of my childhood should not impede consequences on my adult life. An adult mind is much different than the juvenile mind state I was in when I committed my crimes.

I would like to keep an open mind on the subject, and I am open to hear any and all opinions on the subject....

True. But the lines get very blurred when both "victim" and "offender" are 14, the actions were consensual, and status as a victim or offender depends either on gender or whose Mom called the police first.. Who abused who in that case? Or in the case of two 9 year-olds playing "show me yours"?.
There is NO excuse for registering a child for life, any more than there is one for taking a person with a conviction from 1958 who has been offense-free for 40 years and suddenly declaring them to be a danger to society and subject to registration for what is left of their life.

If this is all correct(we only ever have the story people post here of course),then truth seeker deserves a second chance.
But as Orolan says, sometimes the abuse(*NOTE)consists of a consensual situation between two young people of the same age.
In some states(we've establshed that this happens, see thread)two 15 year olds having a consensual "Romeo and Juliet" affair are both posted and pilloried on the registry site, the addresses where they live with their Child sisters and brothers so published,as having "RAPED!!!",each other,.If they later get married,as some have, this will not change the pillorying, and they will have their Children living with them at a posted address(some of countless thousands of Children living at addresses posted on the registries)
A group of kids of equal ages playing a consensual touching game at a party("find the salami","musical chairs for big kids","British bulldog for big kids",I don't know what that is in America, and don't want to know, ugh),are all posted and pilloried as having "MOLESTED" each other.
Two poor Kentucky seven year olds(see thread:first graders face sodomy charge)playing with each other were both insanely charged and stand to be stigmatised and branded for life (it will be "HE SODOMISED A SEVEN YEAR OLD!!!")with "FIRST DEGREE SODOMY!!!".
Two fifteen year old girls in (see the site of "legal issues and court cases affecting sex offenders"),who with common juvenile exhibitionism posted nuse pictures of themselves were charged, and again will be stigmatised and branded for life, with "MAKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY/ABUSING A CHILD",and their boyfriends they sent pictures to were charged with "POSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY!!!",which will haunt them all their lives.
What if any of these were your Child?.
Truthseeker is apparently honest in admitting to a victim. But this happens even where the victim and perpetrator are the same.

(*NOTE)And lets be clear, there is abuse in these situations, two underage Children having sex are abusing each other,an underage girl posting herself nude is abusing herself. And it must be stopped. What I say here is not to condone any of this.
BUT IT IS HEINOUS AND NAUSEATING YOUNG LIVES ARE BEING RUINED IN THIS WAY.
