Dr. Kathy Peterson, who counsels sex offenders at the Kentucky Department of Corrections, says the problem isn't as much about Lanford being a danger to the community as it is about the community's reaction to it. "I think right now we are at a level of mass hysteria in our society."
Dr. Peterson says intense media scrutiny of sex offenders has fueled public fear. "We need to be smarter and better educated in society about this issue."
