LEON, Iowa: An Iowa sex offender who belongs to a church that believes electricity is evil has asked a judge to exempt him from wearing an electronic monitor.

Scott Smith was given a short jail sentence and five years probation for molesting two teenage girls in 2003. At the time, he was a member of the Brotherhood of Christ and his wife and children still belong to the group.

At a hearing Thursday, Ron Livingston, leader of the Brotherhood, testified that the group believes literally that electricity can cause people to disobey God, the Des Moines Register reported. Livingston said an electronic monitor could harm Smith's children.

Oh, this is hilarious. So electricity can cause people to disobey God? I'd love to hear this guy's story. And his wife really believes her children are more at risk with his ankel bracelet than other parts of his anatomy? Sounds like a long prison sentence might be a good thing.

Hey, why not? If "God told me to" is justification for a mother chopping her baby's arms off, why isn't "God told me not to" justification for this?

She didn't molest the baby first, remember? That's what it takes to really work up a jury.

You're right. I forgot that we already settled that in another thread. Killing your own child is a mental illness. Touching their butt is a perversion.

My bad.

I can see why this wretch thought god might be on his side.
Actually if you look at gods record, why Isn't he posted as a Sex offender?
He certainly didn't put any prohibition on paedophilia into the bible or the koran(or I think any other book),the sexual offences condemned in the bible and koran are adultery(the worst one),bestiality, sodomy(the fact that this word is retained on the registry websites,it can mean either rape,Child abuse,or consensual adult relations, show America lives in the old testament not the 21st century or the rest of western society) masturbation(in the bible not the koran)
The koran ( surah ,chapter "divorce") speaks of "those of your wives who have not yet began to menstruate".
Traditionally the Jewish bar/bat mitzvah at 12 years one day for girls,13 years one day for boys, meant sexual availablity through marriage,Jews prided themselves on giving their Children this much protection, unlike Christains and Muslims who married them of earlier.
How old are you supposed to think that "virgin' mary was at the time of the annunciation, the mediaeval hagiographies(saints biographies) say she was 14,in fact she was likely younger.
The likely sceanario is a poor girl ,raped, abused and so pregant, came up with a bizzrre story in a desperate bid to save her life, and not be the victim of an honour killng(as she would amongst Muslims ,and other cultures today,"honour killings" are a big problem here, what is the situation in America?),against all the odds it worked ,and that's the origin of the christian religion,600 years later an Arab bandit ,Mohammed came up with a heretical version of Chritianity Islam.
If there's any doubt in christianity there's none in Islam ,Mohammed(whose every action was guided by god)had sex with a poor nine(yes nine not a typing error) year old girl he polygamously "married",with the korans support.
I don't of course believe in god,but if he existed I wouldn't deem him worthy of worship.
The point is it's no surprise this wretch thought god might be on his side,he could think that fro scripture and history.
So why don't they post god on the registry?.

So, now we can add electricity to the ever-growing list of things that keep poor, mistreated, child abusers from living peaceful lives.
I'm pretty sure that molesting teenaged girls is against the church's views, as well, but that didn't stop Scott Smith from committing his acts, did it?
Send him back to prison, and don't forget to turn off the lights on the way out of his cell.

I dont want to split hairs here..but he isnt a 'child molester' this looks more like a satuatory rape situation. ( you know those people in our society that are treated as adults if they kill someone but cant make an informed decision about sex til their 18 ) And in a lot of these 'pocket religions' marrying or having relationships with young girls is not forbidden.

He was not charged with rape. He was convicted of molesting teenaged girls. Even if the church fully supported "child abuse" relationships, luckily the law in Iowa does not.

So, for Scott Smith - So more teenagers and no cable TV :(

I hear they are trying, but he won't give a believable home address. Keeps claiming he's "Everywhere". Go figure.
