I was recently scanning the web and was amased at how many police officers rape our women and propsition our children . I just read an article on a sherrifs deputy attempting to lure a girl of 13 into sex . It got me to wonder how many police officers actually got away with this type of thing that was never reported . we are suppose to be able to tell our children to trust the police but yet its scary to find that they are doiing the same thing that they arrest people for .I actually believe that the police pose more of a threat to us then the average joe/jane on the street since they have a right to stop you anywhere anytime and its your word against theirs . If anyone knows of any articles i owiuld like to hear about it. I would think that when police join the force that they have to have some kind of sex evaluation done such as maybe a plythesmograph to be certain they are not a threat . I dont believe at this time there are any sex evaluation of police coreect me if I am wrong.

Again it's a matter of what have they done to be described as "sexual" offenders.
There's a difference between a Cop having consensual sex with a 16 0r 17 year old,which gets people posted in some states,and between rape or the abuse of a small child.
Similarily people are posted for "Sodomy",which can,and does mean either rape,child abuse,or free relations between consenting adults,Cops have been convicted under al these circumstances.
In Louisiana peole are posted for "crime against nature" this means oral sex between consenting adults.Do members of the Louisiana Police force(or the Judiciary,ot the legislature)ever indulge in oral sex?

As some of you already know, I have a news section over at the CopWatch.com website titled:

Currently, I have a 176 threads on news artcles where people in law enforcement, the judicial branch, and politicians have committed sex crimes. Sometimes it is sexual harassment allegations that have appeared in the paper. The purpose of the section is to draw attention to the fact that sex crimes by these type of people are more common than people think. What is posted is only the tip of the iceburg. It doesn't matter to me if they are even accused of a sex crime in the paper for it creates a database of sorts on that officer or offical. People can do a search on that person's name to see if they are listed, and read about it.
What amazes me is why do people who know the consequences of their actions still commit these types of crimes? Often it is covered up, or the offical gets a slap on the wrist compared to a normal citizen charged with the same crime.
If someone runs across an article where a cop or offical committed a sex crime, post the title of the article, the source, and the link to the article in this thread. I will then add it to my list in the CopWatch.com forum.

I didn't check, but do you have the FBI's BETA report on SA's relieved of their duties because of criminal actions? The crimes being committed by these, supposedly the "best of the best", are truly amazing.
The BETA report isn't "public" but I do have a PDF file of a scanned copy, if you don't have it.

Yes, and let's not forget to teach them not to trust the people they DO know because 90% of the time it would be someone they know who molests them, cop or no. Responsible parenting and all that.

this is just a wild guess on my part but could it be that police, etc are MORE likely to offend than the general population?
1. a lot of them have a power trip thing going on
2. they spend a lot of time hanging around with bad guys, eventually this has to have some effect on the ones with a weaker moral compass
3. whenever you get professions dominated by males there is often a lot of sexist, misogynistic banter that goes that might encourage them in piggish behavior
4. they have ready access to some of the most vulnerable members of our society (see my post on the twisted judge).
Any stats on this, or do they just get in the paper more because it's a good story?
DP1, what's your experience? Are any of the guys you work with sexist jerks?
The guy who molested my daughter had been a cop trainee, was a wannabee cop and was very much a "law and order" kind of guy. He always volunteered to do things like patrol the school grounds on Hallowe'en, join neighbourhood watch things, etc. On the other hand, I know a lot of cops and I haven't seen any evidence that they are particularly twisted. (Of course I hadn't seen any particular evidence that Uncle Dave was twisted either).

MrTruth, I fully understand the point you're making, but for anyone unaware of how state laws differ, I wanted to point out that in some states (and many countries) an adult can legally have sex with a 16 or 17 year old, though it sometimes (but not always) depends on the age of the adult or the difference in age between the adult and the minor.

I know quite a few LEA's from my work as an EMT. Every LEA I met had different motivations for entering that field. I would say that most of the ones I know began as idealists thinking they could single-handedly wipe crime off the map before they reality that crimes and criminals surround us set in. I have to clarify that all the officers i know are patrol officers and the setting of responding to an ill or injured person is quite different from the setting of say arresting a criminal so that may bias my experience. I don't know any of the men and women who staff the jail, court bailiffs, etc.

It's interesting that you brought this up. All my life I worked in male dominated environments. Only a couple of decades ago were women allowed to work as probation or parole officers. The mentality was that because most of the inmates and parolees were men and they were dangerous, women weren't capable of handling them. No doubt, any profession with that attitude must have sexist jerks.
Nowadays, there are plenty of female parole officers. I feel as though the men have done a great job accepting us as equals. I haven't experienced any sexist attitudes, at least directed towards me.

I hope by posting these news stories of people being sexually abused by law enforcement officers, that more people come forward to report their abuse. They can see by these stories that they are not alone. Not only is it a violation of public trust, it is against the law.

It is ironic that information on individual police officers is often protectected Information, but when they commit a crime it becomes public information and is no longer protected. Case in point is the registries. I have posted in a few news threads where you can find the registry information on that officer, and some of the information that is found there since it is merely public information. I left out the address where the ex-cop lives since I am not providing it for harassment, but it can easily be found out. Moreover, information such as addresses is subject to change anyway.

I hope it pisses people off with me posting articles about cops who commit sex crimes for it should piss people off that cops are doing this. I find it interesting how the crime is usually minimized in most of these articles. Most of the time, they just get a slap on the wrist. Probably reflects societal views that cops are supposed to be the good people. I think sex abuse by cops goes on more than we think, and that these articles are just the tip of the iceberg. Hopefully, more people will come forward when they see that they are not alone, and report the abuse. So far I have 252 threads about cops and politcians who have commited, or have been accused of a sex crime. I don't scan every news source, so I am sure there are more articles out there and not all can be found online.

I read an article not long ago on a LE website dealing with those who conduct stings involving chidporn websites. A very high rate of them soon become obsessed with the very material they are supposed to be stopping. Turnover is very high, and checks of home computers are often found to have illegal material on them. We do not hear of these cases as the LE officer is provided counseling and re-assigned. We all remember operation ORE and
other FBI raids that yielded among others, judges, cops, DA's, PO's,
and even a state rep from NJ.

Considering the lack of people replying to your cop stories I'd disagree. The one or two people you have in mind that may be interested in them can go to your site. I don't see the point in clogging up Steve's general forum with them.
Brennus had an excellent idea which may solve the problem by eliminating posts that aren't replied to.

NEW ORLEANS -- A detective with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office was fired Sunday after being arrested for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl.
Kevin Grob, 48, who had been assigned to the Investigations Division since he was hired in October 2001, was booked with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and molestation of a juvenile.
The investigation began when the girl's mother told deputies her daughter had been fondled last weekend while riding in Grob's car. Grob was off duty at the time.

Grob was jailed in St. Tammany in lieu of $100,000 bond, and his law enforcement credentials were revoked. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 14 years in jail.

Former Rensselaer police officer Edward Farrell was killed early Friday in a two-car accident on Route 4. The crash happened about 6:15 a.m. near Commons Drive.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Farrell, 45, seriously injured. He was transported to Memorial Hospital, where he died. Police said a cause of death has not yet been determined.

In 1999, Farrell was removed from the force after admitting to having sex with his 16-year-old baby sitter. He eventually served six months in jail for sodomy and statutory rape and was placed on the state's sex offender registry.

steve doesn't have a thread view counter set to see how many time a particular thread has been viewed.
There isn't any visible counter and might never be, but page views are logged so I can look at how many times a page is viewed and roughly by how many different visitors. I just checked a thread at random with an article you posted at the end of last week and the thread pages were viewed 24 times from 14 different IP addresses. dp1 makes a good point though. I too would prefer that a bunch of articles about law enforcement involved in sex crimes don't bump a good chunk of the threads in the General forum off of the front page of that forum.
I still feel these news stories are relevant to this site, since it's about exposing sex offenders. Some people may not like the idea that law enforcement is being exposed in such a way. However, to keep them from clogging up the general forum, I will start posting them under this thread.
Eventually I'm planning on adding a way for users to submit articles to the News Archive / In the News forum directly (and some will be flagged as featured as appropriate), but I've held off on doing so because I'm concerned about the copyright and legal issues I faced before changes a few months ago and time/effort to manage properly. Until then, Navigatr1, how about this - post article overview/snippets and source details like you have been to the General forum, with a consistent thread title like "Law enforcement in the news #1", put the article title as the post title and post each new article as a reply to the first article in the thread so new articles are only indented one level. Once there are close to 10 articles in a thread, start a new thread with the same title, incrementing the # by 1. How does that sound as a short-term solution?

SANTA FE (AP) -- A former Santa Fe police officer who pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of attempted criminal sexual contact of a minor has been sentenced to a year of probation.
State District Judge Michael Vigil sentenced Adam Brenner, 33, on Monday.
Brenner received a conditional discharge as part of a plea agreement, meaning that if he abides by probation conditions, the no contest plea will not be considered a conviction under the law.
Huh? Anyone understand this? He pleads no contest to the charge, but it will be dismissed, and not be considered a conviction? Wonder if he still would have to register as a sex offender?
He had been placed on unpaid leave in March 2003 after a Santa Fe County grand jury indicted him on four counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of battery. The remaining charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.
The indictment said the allegations against Brenner were brought by a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old girl.

During sentencing, Brenner maintained his innocence. He said he accepted a plea agreement because he did not want to put himself or his family through the ordeal of a trial.
Brenner was only thinking of himself when he took the plea agreement. He wasn't he thinking about his victims, and definately not taking responsibility for his crimes.

Here is yet another thing upon which we agree. I have had some very bad experiences as a younger woman who dated two cops. I never want my children to trust them even if they kinow them. I have told them that when they begin driving...which my daughter has recently.....to NEVER pull over for a light and siren until she is in a well lit public place especially at night.....no matter how far she has to drive to get here. I told her to put on her four ways and travel slowly to an occupied gas station or store (somewhere where another individual is). I was assaulted many yearx ago ( I was 19) by a police officer that I had recently begun dating (pretty informally, no sex at that time, etc.) I believed I could trust him. I found out soon enough that many of the other cops on the force were in on plans to do this to many young women. He got six months suspension and now heads up the dare program.....it's a very messed up world orolan....what can I say?

I'm surprised that it was surprising to you. These crimes, as you know, are not about sex.....they are about power, control, domination over the weaker. Sex is very powerful but the intentions are not about intimacy here as we would normally view sexual relations. I cannot think of a more perfectly hooked up perp than a cop! They have access, knowledge of the system, friends in high places, the brotherhood to cover for them, etc.

I for one am not surprized at all by this. I am sure that it is even a bigger problem than most think . Because of the "brotherhood",
many police missdeeds are not even reported to the media and are kept under wraps to avoid public scrutiny. Until 2002, I made it a point to "out" my local police for any offense they commit. Many in LE seem to think they are above the law and go 80 in a 55, park illegally, and use their "power" to wrongfully intimidate and harrass people who get on thier bad side. I know of several cops in my old community who used illegal drugs, use sex for favors and even darker things. I can safely say that more than 20% of cops have routinely and habitually committed offenses that others would be cited or arrested for if civilians. They simply are able to get away with it.

LOUISVILLE -- A Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy awaits his arraignment for allegedly receiving oral sex from an inmate.
According to a criminal complaint, Deputy John Rob Kyser received oral sex on July 12 in a holding cell on the fourth floor of the Jefferson County Judicial Center, WLKY NewsChannel 32's Bill Alexander reported Wednesday.
The complaint said Kyser received oral sex in exchange for two cigarettes.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- One Warwick police officer has been fired, another has resigned and three have been suspended for sexual contact with a 17-year-old girl who was taking part in the city's police Explorer program.
Warwick officials said Wednesday the officer fired and the one who resigned had sexual relations with the girl while on-duty, while the three suspended did so while off-duty.

The teen told police he was approached on a Brooklyn street by Clive Peters, who identified himself as an officer. The boy says he was asked to go to Peters' house, where the officer asked him to undress.

The woman who sparked a firestorm by claiming she had sex with four firefighters inside the so-called "Animal House" apparently did not have sex with police officers ? at least not in their station houses, officials said yesterday.
The woman, who initially claimed she'd been gang-raped inside the Ladder Co. 33/Engine Co. 75 firehouse in The Bronx, has said she slept with 200 to 300 of the city's Bravest and Finest since the 9/11 attacks.

Little Rock, AR - The trial of a Little Rock police officer ends with him going to jail.
Officer Don Smith was charged with two counts of third degree sexual assault.
The charges stem from two separate incidents in 2003 with prostitutes. After Smith's testimony, his attorney advised him to plea no contest. Judge Tim Fox found him guilty on both charges.

Smith received 5 years probation, 90 days in jail, a $2500 fine and must register as a sex offender.

DANIELSON, Conn. -- State Rep. Jefferson Davis has cut a deal with prosecutors that will spare him from going to prison in a sexual assault case involving a boy who told investigators he was sodomized more than 50 times.
The Pomfret Democrat, who submitted his resignation Wednesday, agreed to a deal calling for a 10-year suspended prison sentence, probation and registration on the state's sex offender list. He is scheduled to be sentenced in November.
Wonder if he voted for the Conneticutt sex offender registry? If he did, he will now get to see what it's like to be on it.

A third firefighter was suspended without pay yesterday in connection with the sex scandal in a Bronx firehouse, officials said.
The Fire Department said Anthony Loscuito of Engine Co. 75 was suspended after he was interviewed by the city Department of Investigation.
The department also said it was moving to dismiss firefighter Christian Waugh, 30, of Ladder Co. 33 because he refused to answer questions yesterday from city investigators.
Waugh and Tony DeLuca, 34, also of Ladder 33, were suspended Friday after a 34-year-old Staten Island woman called 911 to report she had been raped in a Bronx firehouse. She later said the sex was consensual, and the Bronx district attorney's office has ruled out criminal charges against the firefighters.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A woman being questioned after reporting her boyfriend beat her says a North Charleston police officer exposed himself.
The officer, 44-year-old Michael Dennis Moore, has resigned, authorities said.
Moore hasn't been charged with a crime, because the victim didn't want to travel from her home in North Carolina for his court appearances, authorities said.
But the former officer has undergone a sexual offender assessment and must get counseling or he could be charged with indecent exposure, Summerville police Detective Jon Rogers said.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A former Corrections Department officer was arrested Friday and charged with having sex with an inmate at a maximum security prison while she was an employee, authorities said.
Yashica Wilson, 31, of Lake City, is charged with sexual misconduct with an inmate. The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
Wilson had sex with the Lee Correctional Institute inmate between September 2001 and April 2003, the State Law Enforcement Division said.

WACO, Texas (AP) -- A former police officer is accused of using his position to force a woman to engage in a sex act with him in his patrol car.
Tim Calloway, a former Waco patrol sergeant, turned himself in to authorities on Friday and was charged with official oppression, a misdemeanor. He was released on $2,000 bail.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Calloway threatened to arrest the woman on Feb. 11 if she didn't perform oral sex on him.

Notice too that most of the article use the word "former" in their title when describing these officers. However, most of these Sworn Officers of the Law were on duty, or still a police officer, at the time of the offense. So they were not former officers. In my opinion, the use of "former" in the title somehow seems to lessen the impact that these officers committed a sex crime.

EATON, Ohio -- A Preble County grand jury indicted a former probation officer with two counts of sexual battery after he was accused of having sexual relations with a 17-year-old under his control.
In May 2004, Eaton police detectives, along with a prosecutor from the Preble County Common Pleas Court launched an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by a public official. Authorities said they launched an investigation against Douglas E. Moore, 32, of Eaton who was a probation officer with the Preble County Juvenile Court.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The state police on Thursday agreed to pay $5 million to settle allegations that commanders failed to rein in a rogue trooper who was sexually assaulting women.
The settlement covers civil lawsuits filed in federal court by four women, including one who was 14 in the late 1990s when she was assaulted by former trooper Michael Evans.

LISLE, Ill. (AP) -- A former suburban Chicago police officer has admitted he exposed himself to a female gas station attendant while on duty and in uniform. John Kramer, 36, of Naperville pleaded guilty Thursday to official misconduct and agreed to undergo counseling. Kramer's plea agreement also requires him to take a psychological exam, said Tim Diamond, DuPage County assistant state's attorney. Additionally, Judge Kathryn Creswell placed Kramer on 24 months' conditional discharge, a form of probation.

Rosario is "not remorseful," Chang said. "He inflicted emotional pain" on the victims. He was an "active participant" in the crimes.
And most significantly, Rosario "took advantage of a position of trust," Chang said. Rosario groped and assaulted women while he was on duty as a Los Altos police officer.
Deputy probation officer Diane Atwell said that "now the victims do not trust the police at all."
I originally wasn't going to post a link to this article on this website, but I thought the comment by the Duputy probation officer was interesting. It illustrates the seriousness of the crime when a member of law enforcement commits a sex crime. We really do need to take these kind of sex crimes seriously, and give them long sentences rather than a slap on the wrist.

The 2nd Court of Appeals has ruled that a Fort Worth police corporal accused of sexually assaulting a woman at his Arlington home in May 2001 can be tried again.
In an opinion released Thursday, the local appeals court reversed a trial judge's ruling that, because of prosecutorial misconduct in his first trial, Gary Matthew Twine is spared further prosecution.

MARINETTE — Prosecutors Tuesday dropped sexual-assault and false-imprisonment charges against an Oconto County Sheriff’s Department deputy accused of rape after at least one of his accusers decided not to testify.
Roy Olson, 32, of Lena pleaded no contest to an amended charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and was sentenced to 80 days in jail by Marinette County Circuit Court judge Tim Duket. Olson also must pay $732 in fines and court costs and resign from his job as a deputy. He originally faced 36 years in prison.
Sounds like the duputy intimidated the victims although the article did come right out and say that.

IONIA -- After a former Ionia County sheriff's deputy serves one year in jail for sexually assaulting at least four women while on duty, he will not be able to return to work as a police officer.
Brandon Balis, 30, was sentenced Friday in Ionia County Circuit Court to the jail term, two years probation and ordered not to seek a job in law enforcement or teaching as punishment for pleading guilty to fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and misconduct in office. He also must register as a sex-offender.

A former Beverly Hills police officer is on his way home after striking a deal with prosecutors. Thirty-five-year-old Kevin Patton was on trial for sexual assault when he unexpectedly decided to plea bargain.
Patton allegedly had sex with his wife's teenage sister. The jury was in the process of deliberating the case when Kevin Patton agreed to plead guilty on two of his seven counts. Patton was charged with two counts of indecency with a child and five counts of sexual assault, which could have landed him in prison for 140 years. Both sides gave closing arguments Friday, describing in detail the sexual acts that went on between Patton and the teenage girl during the fall of 2002.

JUNEAU - A former officer at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center agreed Thursday to serve four months in jail for third-degree sexual assault.
Donald L. Coke, 35, appeared before Juneau Superior Court Judge Patricia Collins via telephone from Hawaii to change his plea to guilty. Coke was indicted in April on a charge accusing him of having sexual intercourse with a female inmate between June and September 2003.

INDIO - A settlement has been reached in a civil lawsuit filed by a woman who, as a 17-year-old student at Indio High School three years ago, had sex with a policeman serving as the school's resource officer, according to lawyers involved in the case.
The settlement was reached between all the parties, although details are confidential, the lawyers said. They refused to say if a payment was made to settle the lawsuit.
The City of Indio, Desert Sands Unified School District and Blaine Trimble, a former Indio police officer who served as a school resource officer, were among those named in the complaint filed by the woman.

LARGO - A probationary deputy with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office was fired Friday because he was having sex with a convicted felon he met while on a call, sheriff's officials said.
Sheriff Everett Rice fired Deputy David J. McDonough, 25, after investigators learned of the allegations, to which McDonough admitted, sheriff's officials said.

She said after she was released from treatment, McDonough returned to her apartment to check on her. He gave her his card and phone number, she said. He returned again and had sex with her, at times insinuating that if she told anyone what was happening, he would violate her probation, Garza said.
Garza said she "felt obligated" to have sex with the deputy. He returned several times to have sex, she said.
McDonough also told her he was married with one child and had another on the way, Garza said.
