My heart goes out to you, and have faith that you WILL get through this. My daughter was abused by her father between the ages of 4-8. After she had told me, we both suffered some of the worst months of our lives....but as time moves on it does get a little easier.
Like you, my perception of the world has changed, and I'm a lot more wary of people these days. I feel as though I now have an inner sense of spotting men who may have paedophile tendencies. I conciously avoid leaving my kids anywhere near them.
We can take comfort in knowing that by being extra alert because of our experiences, will at the very least minimise the chances of our children ever being hurt again..

The scariest thing about reading articles like this is that where they are taking place is just a small blip on the map and there are billions of blips on the map!  Imagine the number that never make the papers.  This one hit home the hardest because of my 2 year old daughter.  The "call of the list" for her offender is coming up on the 24th of this month in my county and it is consuming my every thought of every day.  The emotions are so raw I feel like a severed nerve swinging in the cold air.  I find it very difficult just to take her out in public for fear she may let go of my hand or I might lose sight of her if she lets go.  I look at everyone with suspicion especially those who say, "oh, she's such a cutie" or "it's so refreshing to see a little girl in a dress, you just don't see that anymore", hell, anyone who notices her arouses my suspicion.  This incident has changed my life in ways I never thought possible.  I never thought I would be placed in this position again in my life and here I am.  I also never thought I would have to have conversations with specialists to decide whether or not to have an exam (rape kit) done on her little person to see if there was any damage done, etc.  This is just much to much to handle and sometimes I feel like I am going out of my mind.  I apologize for rambling but I find it difficult to sleep at night because I always feel like I haven't made the perimeter of my home safe enough.  I always wonder if I will feel normal again some day and be able to trust anyone ever again.  Anyone out there have any idea just how much stress and anxiety one person can take in their lifetime before they go absolutely mad?
