Let's just say that somebody close to me got "burned" due to a polygraph test. It wasn't a criminal investigation, just a pre-employment screening. But it ruined them from ever being employed in their chosen field, and the findings were totally out of line.
The polygraph is a great interrogation tool. It instills a fear in many persons subjected to it, in many cases forcing a confession(and in a few recently publicized cases, a false confession).
The problem is, the polygraph is easily manipulated. I'm sure your polygrapher will tell you it is infallible, but no polygrapher has demonstrated an ability to detect the types of countermeasures in use today. With regard to sex offenders, it is entirely possible that some are re-offending at will and passing the poly with flying colors every year or six months or however often they take it. So the dilemma is not so much the ones failing the poly, its the ones who pass. Because you get lulled into a sense of security, thinking "If he was doing something, the poly would catch it." It is this reliance on polygraphs for sex offenders that should be revisited.
I do admire your actions in the case you are currently working. So maybe you're human after all. I retract anything derogatory I may have said in other posts. My apologies.
